He dived for at least one. There was a free not given to him alright that should have.
Hogan barged for the last free. KK have just being getting away with breaking the rules for years and now don’t understand the rules when they are applied a bit better.
only saw it the once but thought Larkin definitely dived for one free that was correctly given against him…think he had a hold opponents hurl aswell…the other should have been a free for him alright…tackling with free hand should be an automatic foul i think …for kilkenny’s second goal it was a clear trip on stapleton and should have been a free out…
Cork - Galway 1990
Tipp - KK 2009, 2010
Clare - Tipp 1997
Cork- Clare 2013 drawn game.
The amount of mistakes first half was unbelievable.
It wasn’t near the quality of recent Tipp-KK games alone.
1990, 1997 & 2009 all better games than Sunday. I’d put it on a par with 2010 and 2013 (draw). 1993 an underrated final as well. A very good game between Kilkenny v Galway which was in the balance until PJ Delaney’s late goal.
Larkin has a reputation now for engineering frees and it seemed Kelly went out of his way not to give him one especially the one where he was caught in mid-air.
2009 final is still the best one for me. Tipp were given no chance in that one whereas on Sunday quite a few were predicting a Tipp victory. Kilkenny were also far better back then than they are now.
You’re the very man who said it needed to be changed due to the way Nash was taking the penalties and said it wouldn’t be long before someone was killed (or something similar). Make up your fucking mind will you.
We’d have to be the happier of the two teams with the replay. In terms of scope for improvement and things that can be tweaked, we have greater of both.
Tipp were superb I thought. Their use of the ball was far better than ours and had more variety to it.
They threw it all at us and still, we live on.
If they hurl to the same level in the reply, they should win.
I very much enjoyed the game on Sunday but the defending at times left a lot to be desired, there was one stage in the second half where TJ Reid literally stood about 30 metres from goal to the left hand side of the big D for around 10 seconds and no Tipp lad bothered to pick him up and the ball eventually was sent into him which he pointed.
Spot on.
Tipp defenders were all too willing to be sucked into the 2nd or 3rd man tackle while leaving their direct opponents all on their lonesome. Powers 2nd goal was a direct result of P Stapleton trying to do James Barry’s job on Reid.
@Piles Hussain , if i was a KK fan i would not be relieved of another chance. I would be disgusted they didn’t see it out as Tipp looked dead with 10 mins to go.

During Kilkenny’s dominant spell in the second half I couldn’t get over the fact that the tipp half backline kept trying to compete for ball in twos and threes rather than someone just sit off and play the breaks or stop the ball winner. Happened numerous times and Kilkenny more often than not ended up winning the ball be in in the air or on the ground and moved it to a free man - normally Richie Hogan. In fairness they did seem to change tact and finished on top with Bergin and maher winning plenty of ball which they weren’t earlier
The introduction of Mickey Cahill had a lot to do with the steadying of the Tipp half back line.
Whilst Paddy Stapleton hurled quite well, he was badly caught for both of Ritchie Power’s goals. Power fouled him though in the build up to TJ Reid’s goal.
Comparing it with previous finals, I don’t think it was at 09 levels but was certainly on a par with last year and 2010.
Some lads on about 97, it was an exciting last 5 minutes when Tipp grabbed 2 goals but it would be in the ha’penney place compared to yesterday.
Fogarty (I think) was a lucky man too in the first 20 mins. A nasty shoulder to the chest of a Tipp defender followed by the shoulder into the head of the Tipp guy bending down.
The Larkin “matrix” collision should have been a free in but this notion that KK were screwed over is pretty one-eyed.
There is precedent. Dickie Murphy was the referee in the 1992 and 1998 All Ireland finals, both of which featured Kilkenny.
Did you mean to say you couldn’t have a Kilkenny man refereeing a Wexford game? That’s a view that anyone in Wexford who can recall Paddy Johnson’s officiating in the 1976 All Ireland Final would probably subscribe to.
