This Tipp team measure up very similarly in a comparison to the Cork footballers. Plenty underage success and then the one AI, both went so hard for that one AI its been hard to redevelop the hunger again since.
Cork have no AI winner, hence you would think the hunger at the end of the day will be stronger. It seems to be a sharded trait of these two teams/counties to be satisfied by the one win every now and then (Cork football/Tipp Hurling)
I donât agree Kev. Tipp beat arguably the greatest hurling team of all time to win their all ireland. The majority of that team were young. It is not surprising that they failed to reach that standard in the immediate term as young lads can find it difficult to keep their feet on the ground. Things may have been different if Sheedy remained in charge. Be under no illusion, this is a serious team and it will require Cork putting up their best performance of the JBM reign to beat them.
There is no evidence in 3 years to support that though.
The Cork footballers have been making a fool of me for 3 years for the same reasons. Unfortunately AIâs need more than just talent. Hunger, a clear goal and style of play and confidence are all needed. Maybe Tipp have discovered that, but Sunday will be the first sign of it if so.
Itâs gas that at the time EOS almost got more credit than Sheedy as a kinda secret coach, the man in the background. Now that he has struggled for consistency and success people talk about the loss of Sheedy a lot more.

Other than winning Munster and contesting the All Ireland 3 years ago and winning Munster 2 years ago.

Munsters
FFS youâre from Tipp.
I want this noted as to when Cork fail to win this years AI and Kev backtracks by saying winning a Munster title was a good year for the team.
For a team that lost last year after a replay? Anything other than AI is a waste of time. I said it at the time it was a double edged sword, beat Limerick and confidence will grow but have a long break, lose and get games. A win considering the dual thing was also a help.
However their poor starts is a worry considering the break and a Tipp team who need confidence within a game
Cork had to win that Munster final after losing league final, relegation play off, , Munster final and AI Final. If they had lost that that team would have been psychologically damaged. Important to win it as well given lack of underage success - players have to get used to closing out big matches.
Reasons?
Look, Corks opening performance against Waterford was average at best but they improved.
Tipp had chances against LK but didnât take them, they have improved steadily & offensively are going to test Cork like no other team this year.
I would fancy our forwards against Corks rearguard, whether our backs can contain Corks forwards is the main question for EOS.
True this will be our toughest game this year and it will require our best performance so far this year to win it but likewise i think we will be Tipps toughest test this year as well.It depends on how the backs go.I fancy us to shade midfield and i think our forwards will put up enough scores to win this match. It will be close but i think Cork will shade it so long as our backs have good games!
So Cork can win without their full forward line being brilliant and Tipps full backs having a great day.
Tipp need the goals more than Cork
Okay, if you say so.
But one would think that w/o Horgan, Cadogan & OâSullivan going reasonably well that Cork would struggle. Interesting.
I donât remember that. Anyway you were right if you said it then. I am assuming Cork show up on Sunday and the break in games is not an issue but yes they needed to win something this year.
