Iâm looking forward to seeing the Tipperary ladies in Croke Park on Sunday. The most graceful and beautiful ladies in Ireland as far as Iâm concerned.
How do you see the game going, Barty
yeah I said it was paramount Cork beat Clare as losing could spell the end of the group as CLare would improve and Cork were coming in cherry ripe (2 games), and you got all upset and disagreed
Subtle difference but losing to Clare may not have been end of the world but once they got to a final they had to close it out. Clare were All Ireland champions and hot favourites to dominate hurling for five years.
At this stage of Corkâs development they need to win the All Ireland this year as well. This looks like a real chance for them - more or less injury free, team has improved from last year and if they perform to potential have beating of Tipp and Kilkenny. Not saying they will win it but having lost one last year they do need to go one better this year for it to be progress.
I think Cork will win, pal. But my tipping success rate has declined to around 82% from last yearâs 96% level.
Is Cronin going to start, chaps? Will they start OâSullivan if Croninâs out or keep him as a second half impact sub?
Okay, if you say so.
But one would think that w/o Horgan, Cadogan & OâSullivan going reasonably well that Cork would struggle. Interesting.
Iâm just going by the trend of scoring this season for cork.
Obviously it would be preferable that they do play well as Cadogan has been but it is conceivable that Tipp clean them out but still lose

OâSullivan will start. Two man full forward line. Training games have been âfull bloodedâ.
Tipp were beaten by Galway U-21s in a challenge match. Cork by 8.

Have a sneaky feeling Cronin will start. If there is anyway management can play him, they will.
Will be interesting if Paudie Sul starts, which one of he and Horgan will move out towards the 40 and who will stick with Cadogan inside. Or if they play one of Harnedy/Lehane inside with Cadogan.
Tipp will plough through these chancers without getting out of third gear. For the gamblers on here put your money on Tipp.
Cork are a poor to average team. Limerick due to heavy legs and from over training the week of the game made them look somewhat good the last day.
Tipp are going to pulverise Cork into the ground.
I think that Tipp really need to win this game or a good number of the side will have to be jettisoned and the squad rebuilt. I think they have a good chance of beating Cork if it is a shoot out but I think they will struggle to win a real battle with four of McGrath, OâDwyer, Corbett and Callinan in their forwards. It is really is a massive game for them and Eamonn OâShea
I know the above was a WUM, but I too have a feeling Cork are going to get exposed here, its unusual to see a Tipp team getting to this stage with so little expectation on them and Cork will let them hurl with a freedom Lim/KK wouldnât.
Iâd said it many times previously that the biggest problem Cork have is the lack of work rate in their forwards when not in possession. This has not been rectified, they did work v Clare, but in the first game v Waterford and the Limerick game it was back to older habits, and this will allow Tipp a supply and platform to their forward who are lethal when provided with ball in space (See last 15mins v Galway).
I hear there are injury doubts over OMahony and Micky Cahill and you couldnât be over confident unless they line up. But if they do and are fully fit I think Tipp could win with a bit to spare

I think that is key. Cork worked against Clare because of last year. When they take the pitch against Waterford or Limerick they believe they will win - rightly or wrongly but I think that is just in them - so the work rate falls. Against Kilkenny and Tipperary they donât go out expecting to win and will work. KK game last year was the hardest Cork worked all year.
You can work on this with sports psychology but in my view tradition counts for a lot.
Dublin in football will always fear the Kerry jersey more than any other jersey. Itâs like a collective memory - if he plays for Kerry he must be good - players stand off, give that bit of respect etc. I think in hurling the same is true and a jersey provokes a reaction. Some counties grow up expecting to be superior to other counties in terms of results.
tradition me hole, KK forwards work hard against any jerseyâŚits down to commitment, competition for places and expectations from players
makes a difference in lots of ways on the pitch and off it
Why are Clare happy with one AI and KK come again and again
Why do Kenyans produce runners
Tradition of excellence matters. But also when you line up with somebody wearing a certain jersey it causes a reaction. It doesnât win or lose games but it can make the couple of per cent difference in a tight game.
a forwards work rate is not directly linked to tradition, sorry thatâs just horseshit. Its related to honesty, pride of personal performance and management expectations
there is a nuance and it is on the edges - some players are lazy - mentally they switch off - workrate is linked to focus and against a team like Kilkenny the focus is there because the fear is there
Limerick donât inspire that in Cork. Kilkenny do. Tipp do.
Ever watch a Liverpool United derby and the intensity is ratcheted up a notch or watch Liverpool beat Barcelona and lose to Stoke. That is tradition. Players go that percentage extra. Intensity is a branch of focus etc etc
âthere is a nuance and it is on the edges - some players are lazy - mentally they switch offâ
It terms of Corks forward, I agree. And this is the issue. The top contenders donât need the switch.
Its constantly on and not an issue as to whether they bring it to the table or not

It is why KK are so successful. Cody made a throw away comment after the game along the lines of âthat is just effort and effort is easyâ
Was very telling. Other teams donât do it as naturally or consistently. I agree Kilkenny donât need the switch. That is why they are where they are though. I think though that Cork v Tipp/KK will have that switch turned on. Tradition.

Mostly because they have inherited narrow hips and extremely stiff ankles. They also often had to run to school. Nature & Nurture.
