Cookies beat con in temple Hill. Down to 12 men at one stage. 10er for a game like that is way better than paying through the nose to see second string pro tezms

Scorthy have picked up where they left off @Ralphie. Battered Midleton 39-17 last weekend at home and gave City of Derry an awful pasting 48-10 in Derry today. A fair achievement to keep most of the squad together for the last 18 months with no games.

Plenty of youth coming through. Apparently Nick Doyle played rugby last weekend rather than playing in the championship with the Starlights which was a fairly big call.

Absolutely. Standard of rugby is usually very high and a lot more free-scoring than the professional game.

Pre match lunches, post match pinting is a cracking way to spend a Sat too

Lansdowne beat Terenure in a very high standard club match today.

Most provincial clubs have gotten players back they mightnt have expected with the WFH environment. Enniscorthy riding serious momentum. They must have been youngish side when they went up. My own crew were so long trying to get there they were a few years late to the table and needed rebuilding

Iv been at 5 junior rugby games over the past 6 weeks or so. I love it. You never know what your going to get. I was at a game a few weeks ago that had two sides who were seriously mismatched in terms of ability but the weaker side dragged it into an absolute pitched battle of scrums, pulling and dragging and absolute shithousery winding the clock down. It was níl all at half time but massively enjoyable :joy:

When you only have a few hours a week with the players you focus on the attacking elements of game. Makes it so much easier on the eye when defences are that little bit less organised

I don’t think the WFH environment helped them at all to be honest. A lot of the team had come through the ranks together and they’ve added a few more from the last U19 team that played. Then there’s the likes of Ivan Poole still playing who would be late 30s or so and seems ageless.

They’ve built a serious sense of community in the club over the lockdowns and lack of games. Rugby would always have been seen as the Protestant and elitest sport like in most other towns but they’ve made a good first of trying to appeal to the average townie. Deccie O’Brien has stepped back from some of the coaching to try and oversee more and early signs are encouraging.

Really? I’d say I don’t know 3 protestants. And two of them are you and Locke

From underage at 830 this morning right the way up to senior grade this afternoon, seeing a massive focus and ability in keeping the ball alive. Granted weather still more conducive but great to see way it’s being played at the minute

Coached good few underage teams over past few years and it’s impossible to get them to kick the ball. Makes for some great scores

Sure tis a Cork thing. You’re so surrounded by them it all seems normal to you

We had a serious debate in our house about what sports the kids would play. I wanted to keep them away from rugby for a number of reasons but the deal ended up being if they were to go to GAA & Soccer then they had to go to rugby as well. Best argument I ever lost.

Our eldest lad has his first U7s game tomorrow. He loves it. Bizarrely, doing rugby training gave him more confidence for hurling and soccer. Tomorrow could be a complete disaster but sure once he’s happy I couldn’t give a fuck.

Great seeing the confidence grow before your eyes

In fairness the bit of rugby will come in handy when you are trying to get him into a private school.

Most kids love it at that age. It’s catching and passing.

Despite all you might read on TFK the vast majority of people who have played the game at underage and adult level would have really enjoyed it. The one thing I find about kids playing it is that there is so few rugby clubs the numbers are drawn from multi schools and gaa clubs etc. So few cliques and the rugby group are standalone friends you make. There isn’t half the guff training kids at rugby than gaa because they don’t know each other as well

Not a fucking hope of it. Pay 10 grand a year for an oul scam above in Dublin for something you can get for free on your doorstep? I work with enough lads who had the misfortune to have a rich Daddy and were sent to the likes of Gonzaga and Terenure and I’d say the money would have been as well spent being thrown into the Liffey

Yadda, yadda, yadda. That’s what the wife was thinking when she mugged you off into making them play rugby.
