All Ireland League - Proper Rugby

Balls of a system this year. They didnt want to hinder clubs if C19 affectes them. The only division without a cancellation was 1A, saying that tarf beat UCC with a 2nd team as they had 12 players out one week. We got hit with 6 before Trintiy but still fielded. There was some gowl acting in the lower divisions, without naming clubs a Tipp derby was cancelled at the last minute as a club had ‘cases’. They got a nil all draw instead of a hammering. Wesley should be 1A but lost by a point today so wont go up.

What are the odds of the final this weekend? Would Clontarf be considered strong favourites?

They’d certainly be favourites having beaten Terenure twice already. First match in Lakelands, their pack bullied the tenure pack. I’m the return fixture, they’d 3 men sin binned and, while close, never really looked like being beaten.

Clontarfs second rows are giants whereas terenures are more like big backrowers. This has seen the set piece giving Clontarfs massive advantage and make it difficult for terenure to get a foothold as can’t secure their own lineout and really challenged on their own scrum

Clontarf have lost a couple fellas to the Leinster tour which helps Terenure. I’ve a brother playing in it Sunday and hope for all money terenure win. But they’ll certainly be underdogs and need to be top of their game and hope clontarf aren’t top of theirs. If terenure can play the game at a high pace, keep ball in hand and away from set piece, they could turn them over

Conor Kellys Clontarf vs Craig Adams Terenure.

Laois awaits.

@Mac @Ralphie will Enniscorthy get much longer out of that team? Like I mean are they capable of getting anymore promotions? They pissed that division 2c.

At that level it’s not unrealistic to bounce up a few divisions. They’ve a good mix of experience and youth but it comes down to the bankroll and how sustainable it is. But holding onto their better players will probably be the challenge

Was keeping an eye on them there. Didn’t realise there was a play off. That’s some load of bollocks!

It’s a dose but it was known at the start of the season at least

The original plan agreed at the beginning of the season was the 1 up and 1 down automatically with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and second form bottom in the division above in a play off as before but they had also set out updates to competition rules in the event of covid affecting games. If a team was unable to field due to covid the game will be deemed a nil all draw and both teams get 2 points. To avoid a team being denied top or being relegated due to a result like this the clubs and IRFU agreed if there is a game in a division affected by covid than that division will have top 4 play off for promotion and bottom 2 in a 2 legged relegation final. All divisions bar 1A were effected by covid so we have this situation.

Its a balls of a situation, i believe whoever is top should be up regardless. Very harsh on Wesley for example and will be for Enniscorty if they dont win today. But on the other hand going back to last August if you offered a full season with a handful of games effected and now we have promotion and relegation finals i would take your hand off.

I fancy Terenure. Even when we bate them in October you can see they were close to kicking on. Lost the first 3 games than it happened.

Saying that Clontarf are very powerful. Looking forward to watching it

Anyone heading todays games? Im heading to Nenagh. Cant face the thoughts of trying to get to connagh. Hopefully Naas do a job there

There is a great twitter live going on from around the grounds on the Irish rugby page. Just going to club members for updates before the games. Chaos :joy:

Scorthy 41-14 up @Ralphie - savage achievement by the lads. Hope they can keep everyone together for a shot at 2B

Once Wexford beat Dublin this evening, they might have Nick Doyle back for the Leinster Semi Final

In the 2 seasons they had they have dominated 2C. Hopefully they can push on in 2B. The worst thing is in 2C if you have a poor season your back to junior
