All Ireland Senior Football Championship 2014

What else would you expect from a Laois man?
Galvin and Hayes anyway. And we’ll have to see how Kelly, O’Driscoll and O’Rourke go in unfamiliar positions.

Its not a team that would terrify anyone anyway.
Galvin best back in county championship for 3-4 years, AI 21 medal winner. He will lose out to Cadogan in time, but that doesn’t make him average. A very agressive defender, perfect to bring in late in games.
Hayes is class Turenne, that’s a rubbish statement. He put on too much muscle an got injured trying to fit into Counihans regime. Got pissed off with that and gave up. Perfect for modern game. He was exactly like Mannion at the same age.

Kelly will be excellent, made for it. Obviously we know nothing of O Rourke at half back only he is a superb ball carrier, has great speed and can score. One would think given time he is made for the role.
Barry O Driscoll has been playing further out for quite a while now.

However one, at a stretch 2, average players does not make it an average team.

Calling Hayes “class”.

I know your a bit bitter Bomby that it was Cork that finished the great Tyrone team off in 2009.I can’t think of a team that has gotten the better of Tyrone up in Tyrone as often as us.I think we spook Tyrone a bit tbh.
Cork team Sunday. Very interesting half back line. O Rourke is an out and out speedster. Clearly Cork are following Dublin, to a degree. Dublin still have more power 5-12, Cork have some serious foot passing ability in that area in contrast.
Cutbert also stuck to his word on the hurlers. Probably a good call with the season as a whole in mind. It’s pretty obvious Andrew O Sullivan will be replaced in time by Walsh and this is a real problem area for Cork. Walsh and Gould is a fine partnership but there is zero back up. Ruiri Deane is talked as one but I only ever saw him play half forward and he looked too light back then, so I have nothing to judge him on. Ian McGuire is clearly not deemed physically ready yet, but he would certainly seem to be the answer.
Forwards as expected except for CON, who is clearly been seen as an impact sub for the foreseeable.
Good balance to the bench with an all star defender, midfielder and attacker to come on.

Sorry about that Kev.I should have checked earlier. You got there before me!

Hurling man myself alert!

Not at all.

All good things come to an end and we were finished off by nobody.

Turenne isn’t even a a glass half empty guy, he leaves the glass in the cupboard.

It’s ok BC, some lads might have me on ignore, it’s good that we cover them all so they know what’s coming down the track.

But you were.Cork blew you off the field that day.I have great respect for that Tyrone team but Cork walloped them that day and Tyrone were never the same again.Mickey Harte should resign imo.He reminds me right now of Pete McGrath in his latter years as Down manager.

There is definitely a media-driven witch hunt against Cavanagh, Colm Parkinson actually had a decent piece in the past few days about how he is being unfairly targetted. I think a player like Cavanagh must find it very frustrating with the pulling and dragging he receives on the field, I can’t think of a player who is more fouled in the game. There’s no doubt about how he uses the hand pull to win frees but I think the context if which he does is constantly misrepresented to the public. I don’t think he is trying to get players booked or black carded, it’s more a case that he is trying to draw attention to fouls. He has became a lot more “astute” in winning frees in the past few years and he has used the hand pull for a lot of these but I think in the majority of incidents he was being fouled and whereas in previous years he would try and stay on his feet and play through them and get no advantage he has learned from those mistakes.

Looked at Darren Hughes black card on Sunday - Cavanagh did drag him to the ground and it wasn’t a black card but it was definitely a free kick to Tyrone. Hughes has his hand in over Cavanagh’s wrapped around his chest and you can’t tackle like that. It’s the focus that is constantly on Cavanagh that I think is highly unfair. Mone was an even bigger offender in the simulation charts than Cavanagh on Sunday and was at it all day winning frees and penalties. Even Conor McManus manufactured a free by going down under a challenge by McNamee in the second half. They don’t highlight the amount of times Martin Penrose was fouled but didn’t get the free because he didn’t go to ground on Sunday, nor do they do it with McCurry.

I haven’t seen any of the panelists focus on Michael Dara MacAuley amount of cynical holding and fouling he does through games and always seems to get away or the cynical fouling Mayo carry out to great effect so I think you can see why Cavanagh and Tyrone might be annoyed at the way things are being misrepresented by panelists.

I think Cavanagh is a pawn in a bigger game… the GAA are mad to hop off Micky Harte…he was complaining about the amount of time added on and Mongahan’s gamesmanship so the Sunday Game done a piece on Tyrone’s gamesmanship…thought it was ironic Ciaran Whelan doing the piece as to me his old midfield partner, Shane Ryan, was the master ( even maybe the inventor of grabbing the tacklers arm and falling down to win a cheap free and that was a good few years ago…why highlight it now??..

It definitely seems to be the case. Cavanagh is no saint but I think it’s highly unfair on him to be painted the villain in the piece. In the last 10 minutes of the game on Sunday Monaghan collapsed and Cavanagh really came to the fore for Tyrone, he got a huge amount of ball and drove them but everytime he went on a run he way cynically fouled or attempted to be fouled, yet there was nothing really mentioned about this and everything surrounded the fact that he pulled Hughes down with him to gain a free. I think anytime hanging on to a victory in the last 10 minutes of a game will do the same, Dublin did it against Mayo last year in the final and there wasn’t an awful lot of focus on it.

Derry look like they have either a lot of injuries this weekend or they are doing some experimentation or possibly a bit of both.

 26. Ciaran McGoldrick (Eoghan Rua)

 27. Conor Murphy (Dún Geimhin)

Good to see Kielt back fit again and they have some decent options on the bench in O’Kane, Holly, Herron and Bell. O’Boyle has gone to America so it would seem McBride, Patsy Bradley, Doherty and McGuckin must be injured as they are not in the squad.

Donegal (SFC v Antrim): Paul Durcan; Éamonn McGee, Neil McGee, Paddy McGrath; Frank McGlynn, Karl Lacey, Anthony Thompson; Neil Gallagher, Rory Kavanagh; Christy Toye, Leo McLoone, Ryan McHugh; Paddy McBrearty, Michael Murphy, Colm McFadden.

Kelly got absolutely arse raped in the League for Cork at centre back against Dublin. Stupid to persist with it.

Still, incredible set of forwards on the bench…

In the last 20 mins when everywhere else was. He was very good in first half. It was the midfield and half forward line tiring that had a lot to do with that, no centre back would deal with the pressure and running. Don’t go into management spidey if you are going to abandon your plans after one hiccup. GAA is difficult to coach and manage in the sense that you don’t play every week and you have to give things time to settle in. Ideally kelly would have played 6/7 league games there but he was injured.
