All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2016

Because their coaches spend too much time on coaching courses and not enough time actually coaching :joy:

Galway lads - would i be reading too much into a few interviews and comments in thinking Michael Donoghue is putting serious effort into Galways mentality? Just getting a hint of the possibility they are working with a professional or a well in-tune manager.

If Kilkenny beat Waterford, I really hope Tipp beat Galway as Galway don’t have the self belief to beat the Cats.

If Waterford beat Kilkenny, I’d love to see a Waterford vs Galway final.

Did you actually just say that twice not scoring in the last ten minutes was evidence he is a bottler, and follow up by saying the time he scored a goal in the last ten minutes is also evidence he is a bottler? :grinning:

You fucking fool :grinning:

I’d be surprised if Liam Dunne or many of his selectors did many coaching courses. And they ended up getting in the minor coach from Kilkenny to go with the seniors too.

I’m ribbing obviously.
Wasn’t aware there was so many injuries, was there alot of OTB lads in that or is it over blown?

Waterford won’t beat Kilkenny. Their system won’t let them. Mcgrath has done fuck all since the Munster final to try and add some bit off an attacking system into the game. Kilkenny might only win by six or seven but it will be comfortable. No disrespect to Wexford but they are piss poor and Clare are not an awful lot better. I still think Tipp will beat Galway but the result is certainly in more doubt then the Kilkenny Waterford match

It’s important to plant your feet, steady up and concentrate on getting a good, solid connection. Striking swiftly and accurately on the run is an unnecessary and overrated skill to master.

I hate the way daly refers to Michael Walsh as ‘the brick’ then ends the comment giggling like an idiot. Did it at least once today. Another galway hating roaster who’ll be seething over a pint in his failed bar tonight.

He is a calm thoughtful manager with a bit of hurling intelligence. All you need really, as roaring and shouting at players during a game, and constantly chopping and changing formations just confuses players. For all their systems, and they have had years to develop it, Clare were a shambles today. One small example, Galway completely shut down Cian Dillon, and at the opposite end Aidan Harte had the freedom of Thurles.

A good few injuries alright, but I’m not sure how many would really contribute to the first side. Jack Guiney is an obvious candidate, but again, I’m not sure he;d walk onto the team in any case. Kevin Foley is another. Ian Byrne too. All 3 not in the panel for non injury reasons but “opted out”. Andrew Shore was missing all year. Paudie Doran got injured last week.

Breen was a loss today, but then he was replaced by Liam Ryan who was injured the past couple of games. Of the Oulart injuries, can only think of David Redmond and Shaun Murphy in that. And then Eoin Moore who got injured today.

If nothing else though, it would add an awful lot to the depth of the squad and would give better options. David Dunne was a nice find this season. A hugely disappointing performance though. Some very basic shit going wrong. Defenders still looking for the big haymaker clearance down to fucking nobody. No intelligence in the gameplay at all. Waterford play an extra defender, so we lump the ball straight in on top of him. Awfully dumb stuff. The sharpness of passing and speed of getting ball to hand is so lacking.

The key to beating Clare is stopping the short puck out. We finally copped on to it for the last 20 minutes when we played them and would have taken them had we copped it earlier.

That’s it in a nutshell.

You could hear that other lunatic roaring and balling over the far side.

@anon32894817 starting to wear Tassottis shoes around here with the wumming he’s doing.

No I did not say that.

Today was the fourth time over the past two years I’ve been at a Waterford match - Munster Final & AI semi final last year and Munster Final this year. In all four of those games, not alone have Waterford failed to raise a green flag, they didn’t even attempt or have a sniff of creating a goal chance. Its bizarre and truly awful stuff, having only two, sometimes at a push just three players within 70 yards of the opposition goal. Looking at the likes of Tadhg de Burca, Austin Gleeson, the Bennett brother, Devine and Patrick Curran at minor and U21 level when they’re released from the constraints of Derek’s system, they’re well able to hurl.

Kilkenny are still a tough nut but do look more beatable. They’ve only scored one goal in each of their five championship matches stretching back to last year’s Leinster Final and Kilkenny’s poor first half performance against Galway in both last year’s All Ireland Final and the Leinster Final a few weeks ago could have been costly for them if Galway hadn’t leaked a few soft frees just before and after half time and/or converted a half chance of a goal. Waterford if they go out against Kilkenny set up as they were today will hold them to 4 to 6 points but will never once look remotely like winning. Waterford will need three goals to beat Kilkenny. Hard to see where they’ll come from.

Wexford looked a poorly coached side, without the requisite levels of fitness and conditioning which should be a given at that level. With 7-8 absentees, there were too many players well short of the standard required for inter-county hurling. And that’s before you even got into the subs bench.

It seems to me that Mcgrath thinks implementing a system similar to that used by Donegal is going to win matches. He doesn’t seem to realise that it’s a different game

Hurling is in trouble.

When you see how far the top 3 are away from the rest and they all play the traditional way I think it’ll be alright
