I was quite surprised with the pace of John Hanbury at the weekend, or maybe i thought Shane O’Donnell was chanin ligthning. Ina ny case in a few long (20m to 30M) sprints iiw as quite hsocked to see Hanbury over haul him.

This is a very good Galway and could have the manager to help them go all the way.

That has been the case with Clare players all year. In fact it’s been like that for several years. Lightening fast players being dusted in straight sprints for the ball. A classic indicator of fatigue and over-training.

It was very noticeable alright. It was actually shocking that he could catch and overtake him so comfortably in 30-40 yard sprints. @stevie_G and myself were therefore also wondering at the match if Hanbury was much quicker than we realised.

longer legs certainly helps

What was your conclusion?

I think Hanbury is deceptively fast. I noticed it last year too, pal. Post up the goal Galway conceded in the AI Final. Hanbury is so fast that he made a decision to try to nip in for a ball when he should have been more cautious and held his position. His belief in his pace counted against him.

The above may be a terrible example based on an incorrect recollection.

Yeah, that was a bullshit recollection by me.

Your point about his deceptive speed is still valid though.

Hanbury actually got a slight pushed as part of the lead up to the goal and fell out over the ball. Great work by the KK forward though, protected the ball lovely before giving the little push.
