All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2016

Hands up. I really wasn’t expecting that from Waterford.:clap::clap:
The next question now is can they repeat and even up the ante next week.
A few under par performances from Kilkenny but I must give credit to Waterford in so far as they didn’t let theme play. Might even travel to Thurles myself next Saturday.
Can someone please post a picture of the ref in “the faces I’d love to smack” thread.

They need better reception?

Fucking predictive text. Ah here I’ll fix it

Fuck no! They are world’s apart.

Clearly.

Owens was fine today. Waterford lacked the guile & mental strength to see it out no matter how much some dullards try & pin the blame on the referee.

The refereeing was average today. I certainly thought it was over carried for the goal but no clear foul on the Waterford man in possession.

Will go myself, going to camogie in Nowlan Park earlier on, fits perfect.

My thoughts on today.

  • Can’t understand the ref bashing. Owens was pretty decent today overall. Few soft frees both ways but overall I felt he handled the game well. Tough game to ref - everyone screaming for frees all match (even me as a neutral!) - but he did fine. Last Waterford free that put them a point up looked very soft. Gave Kilkenny a few handy ones but probably balanced itself out.

  • Waterford blew that. Much the better team. Had them beaten but like most teams looking to make the breakthrough they got nervous, retreated and tried to cling on rather than pushing their superiority home. They were sensational for most of that match though. Brilliant display.

  • How did Kilkenny not lose that? Any other team in that scenario would have lost by 10 points. They’re like Fergie’s United, the cunts don’t give up. They seem vulnerable now, however. Squad strength is pretty threadbare. The likes of Lester Ryan and Walter Walsh would struggle to have made the match day squad from 2006-2009. Staunch Kilkenny fan Tom Dempsey was still confident on the radio they’ll win the replay, though. He’s never anything other than positive about his beloved Cats.

  • I fancy Waterford to win the replay. They’ve got the legs on Kilkenny. Like when Dublin drew with Kilkenny a few years back everyone said the Dubs had missed their chance. Six days won’t energise the ageing Kilkenny stalwarts too much I reckon.

  • The hurling championship 2016 finally came to life. And two more top games next weekend. Magic.

  • Had to turn over from those respective cunts Marty and Cummins. The brown nosing of certain players is sickening. Sky not nearly as irritating.

I’d still take Marty over Canning. Who was doing the commentary on Sky?

As soon as Austin Ossie Gleeson ran across the pitch with his arm punching the air to make it five points the hurling God’s took over. ‘Ossie’ spent the last 10 minutes taking various sideline cut potshots and falling over while kk got down to work and closed the gap.
Breeding and class is important in hurling. Kk obviously strong in both areas. Not so watherford.

Well that was a massive escape, Waterford were better all over the pitch, won the aerial battles, first to the breaking ball, unbelievable workrate. Also got the tactics right as they managed to take KK’s platform (Fennelly, Fogarty, Buckley & Walsh) out of the game. Completely dominated the forwards (with the exception of Hogan). I really don’t know how we managed a draw to be honest, thought we were done for with 15 minutes to go but the worked the goal and then the equalising point extremely well.

Waterford should’ve had it closed out by this stage though, hit a lot of poor wides in the second half. I thought the referee gave a few soft frees to both sides, probably moreso KK but it was hardly the worst performance ever as someone has suggested.

Edit: Austin Gleeson is a fabulous hurler

Harsh on Walter, probably KK most important forward behind Hogan and Reid, which says a lot.

Walter’s unorthodox but I think his hurling is better than people think. A bigger problem is that he is an incredibly awkward athlete.

He hadn’t the pace to get that goal to be fair .

 Aren’t you the poster who made disgusting and vile comments about Waterfords Paul Flynn that were false, vindictive and a fiction of your little mind ?

Pity poor old @Fagan_ODowd didn’t survive to see that display. He would have been proud. I hope they do the 21s an senior double in his memory
