Apple iPad
It’s savage.
He doesn’t like change.
Scare him by saying that the racey pictures of his missus will be hacked out of the cloud.

Na, I was due to get one for another person next week so I’ll just hang onto it for him.
It’s the perfect business device really. The lack of 3G is the only big downside to it (along with the onscreen-keyboard optimisation not being great)

What makes it superior to an iPad for business use?

Very simple things like the ability to use a USB key with it, full office suite, proper docking capabilities so it can be used with an external monitor, keyboard, mouse and be connected to the LAN via ethernet. Runs a full version of windows so anything you can run on your laptop you can run on the Surface, also allows for multiple user profiles, which is handy if the devices is to be shared within a department.

Sounds just like a laptop. What Tablet-like features does it have?

Exactly. It’s a laptop replacement in Tablet form.

@TreatyStones Please hold onto the Surface and we can use it as a prize for the NFL Survivor competition.

I will give it to you when you are giving me my crate of beer for winning the World Cup Sweepstakes.

The lack of 3G is a non-issue if you simply learn how to tether your phone.
Which is very simple these days.

He just wanted it to work. No messing.
I’d have no problem with tethering it and had that setup on it.

Some tard! There is no helping technophobes though. It’d cost him about 4 clicks and save him money.

NO!!! I want this overpriced, oversized iPhone rather than this infinitely more useful piece of machinery.

would you not have said something like, ah well not to worry it probably wasnt suitable for you anyway

I did say “It probably has a bit more functionality than what you require”.

That is my crate of beer for when I won the Stock competition many years ago

Do phone networks not screw you with data charges for tethering? At least that’s what Vodafone told me before - tethering not included in my monthly data allowance or something.

That was a few years ago. It’s changed since.

At the moment I have all data included with three and that data is on 4G. Including tethering.
€20.33pm. Billpay sim only, monthly rolling contract. 350 units[1 minute calling or 2 texts = 1 unit] with it for calling and network texts.
Which is peanuts really.
http://www.three.ie/shop/sim-only-plans/bill-pay-sim-only/
Sim only unlimited everything is €40. Anyone paying €60pm+ for a phone contract these days is thick.
Do not get locked into a fixed contract with anyone. Buy the phone outright and take the best available rolling sim contract to go with it.
Works out cheaper in the long run. Plus when you are in a rolling contract you can jump to the next cheaper offer as it becomes available.
I had been with eMobile €32pm for unlimited everything until I jumped to three. The very second I see a clearly better offer I’ll be gone.

That’s all fine for Dublin, but 3 and eMobile / Meteor have pants reception outside the Pale

That’s another factor alright and something that people need to toy with when contemplating a switch.
It’s hit and miss depending on your location. Pick your poison.

In saying that now that three bought O2 their combined network should be better.
Be prepared if you go with three to deal with historically shit customer service.
