Apple iPad

thanks Mac

Runt-can you respond to the DVD question & maybe strengthen Macs presumption

That’s what I had assumed originally, but then when the Kindle argument was put in front of me I scurried away to the forums to find out which one was right!

I would like to read more so the Kindle Fire interests me, it being a Kindle and an internet device and relatively cheap.

Handy comparison table:

I couldn’t say definitively but I’d be leaning towards yes but with a high degree of difficulty.
You’d need to find a compatbile drive and drivers which may not be easy for a non-standard device like that (even with Android).

I wouldn’t go buying it with that purpose in mind, but it might be something you could get to work with some effort.

Re-reading the spec, it mentions a micro SD slot which is when you can fit the usual memory card from a phone or digital camera as far as I know. That should sort the photos out for you. Runt will confirm I’m sure.

How does Wimax work, is it just like normal wireless?

There’s another one here TASE if you don’t want to pay as much in case it doesn’t work out. Am sure it’s not as good obviously.

Reviews on boards.ie about this weren’t great for what it’s worth.

Thanks Runt & Mac

Hey Rocko, how is this working out for you?
Do you still use it?

I love the design of the transformer. That would be the ideal design when tablets can replace laptops.
You will still need a keyboard. Typing on touchscreen is no replacement for an actual keyboard.

You can get some good accessories from Zagg for the IPAD, including a carry case that has a keyboard built in. It’s very good.

I felt it was a frivolous purchase at the time and I wasn’t wrong.

That’s not to say it’s not good at what it does. The keyboard is very handy (use it far more than just the touchscreen) but I find the trackpad a bit annoying.

My main grievance is that I don’t have a real use for it. I thought I’d use it a bit more for internet browsing but I tend to just use a laptop or desktop for that. Have movies on it which was handy on a flight but hardly justifies it. It’s a nice piece of technology, and I like it as a tablet, I just remain unconvinced about tablets. I do like the Kindle Fire from what I’ve seen though.

Ye lads deserve a tax hike.

That was my 6000th post.

You buy a cheap SIM at the airport when you land at the other side. I believe that’s how it works.

My iPad arrive yesterday, it’s quite simply awesome.

That’s weak bro.

Did you get an engraving on it?

Nah, I really don’t see the point in that.

Hoping to pick up the new IPad this weekend. I’ve decided against getting a new laptop in favor of this. Will probably go for the basic 16gb model with wifi only. Anyone hear or read any good or bad reports on it?
