I love her accent, allied to the enthusiasm she shows every time she is interviewed

Exactly. Destroyed by Adeleke despite going extra hard to get to the break first & then trying to shove her wide. Pretty sure Adeleke got the better of her convincingly in the Bahamas recently too so that was something the Dutch had cooked up in the planning since.

Barr is very classy in his comments. In a few interviews, he’s referred to the others not on the starting line today.

Tom Barrs 2 segments there are a lesson in pure humility. The man is so genuine. Tom seems one of those lads that everyone just seems to like. You’d rarely hear anyone criticise him for anything. Out of all of them, he’s the one that you feel will get the most satisfaction from tonight.

A photo that represents our country, the headbangers on ballots today would not be happy

It’s brilliant. To hear her talking with a thick tallaght accent after winning gold for Ireland shoves it up the hole of all the racist fuckwits. Today of all days with the amount of these knuckle draggers polluting ballot papers all over the country.

“Helena Ponette is not as quick as Sharlene Mawdsley” was a simple yet brilliant line from Greg.

In a way, a moment like that could never be on terrestrial TV. It would have to be imperfect to be properly Irish. Kinda sums the whole thing up

Rhasidat with the tricolour casually draped over her shoulders just looked normal at this stage, lovely to
see

At the end of the day, athletics is the only truly inclusive sport we have in this country.
As far back as I can remember, there were Patterns and sports days. We’d have our races, the girls theirs. And then we’d spend the afternoon chasing around the field, pretending we didn’t like each other :grimacing:
Then it was actual competitions; schools, clubs, Community Games (some of the best day’s of my life were in Mosney early 90’s, Christ the Northern girls were unbelievably exotic)
But I digress, point being every club or school team I was in, boys and girls were treated equally.
We trained together, travelled together and occasionally, on big occasions in Dublin we’d stay in the same B&B.
I’ve played and loved, GAA and Football, but by their nature, as is the case with most team sports, its not usual that the sexes mix.

And yet the sport gets minimal coverage.
Tonight was a great night.
