Looks like the coaches of the other runners have read the rule book and got onto the organizers!
They had the ladies pole vault on earlier too in front of the main train station. They’d have been as well doing the event on a custom track there or something.
They both don’t need to be in their main events tomorrow evening either. Both are in the final. Give the audience a novelty event of interest and pay them the same fee. It would get a far bigger TV audience rather than what they got tonight.
I would have had mondo at a million to win that
He’d have finished 3rd in the Irish Championships with that time. Maybe we should be converting some sprinters to pole vaulters!
Actually @TheUlteriorMotive I heard a few snippets of a Rhasidat interview on some 2nd Captains podcast yesterday. She was giving a low down as to how she’s been since Paris which wasn’t great. She had to be practically carried out of the Stade after the semi final and was drained ahead of the final.
Still felt shite in Poland and decided to try and new approach to see what level of endurance she actually had which blew up in her face but Flo and her agreed they had to try it.
She’s feeling a bit healthier now and is convinced she picked something up in Paris. She spoke very maturely about a lot of the Bahrain stuff and just shut down the 2nd Captains lad who kept probing her. She finished by saying that her fastest ever time over 400m (European final) was when she actually went out slower and finished strongly so maybe the notion that she’s all speed is actually not right and she can come from behind over the final 100m.
It was also interesting to hear her have self doubt over Flos belief in her. He mentions times to her that she thinks are well beyond her and she struggles to really push herself to those in races. Hopefully that confidence will come with maturity.
She also has a proper American twang in her Tallaght accent now which makes her a very enjoyable listen.
That’s an interesting take alright.
She’s a class act. Covid seems to have been rampant in Paris.
‘She spoke very maturely about a lot of the Bahrain stuff and just shut down the 2nd Captains lad who kept probing her.’
Sounds like that could really attract Paul kimmages wrath
She was asked does she view Nasser any differently to other athletes and she talked about seeing all competitors the same. She was then opening up a rabbit hole about doping but then shut it down by saying she didn’t actually know what she was banned for and that she hadn’t been found guilty of doping. The 2nd Captains lad tried to correct her but then she just said she wasn’t even aware of any of the Bahrain stuff until journalists started asking her and that she’s so focused on her own performance that she usually doesn’t see the noise others create.
It was a lovely bit of PR management by whoever briefed her because her answer shut down the vast majority of follow up questions. Kimmage will keep probing I’m sure and then surely someone will accuse him of being both sexist and racist and he’ll have an interesting decision to make
That sounds fair enough but will drive him ballistic. The racist angle would be funny if that was thrown at him alright to see what he’d say then.
Warholm togged out in a Sweden kit
That must have been the forfeit
Is adeleke running tonight?
It was. He claimed he tweaked his hamstring in the 100m yesterday so didn’t run the 400mH. And then Dos Santos pulled up after 250m. The track is completely drenched. The women’s high jump was a farce as their run up was through puddles
Nope. Plan is for Brussels next weekend.
Tebogo vs Lyles over 200m could become the greatest genuine rivalry of our generation of they play it right. The loudmouth vs the introvert. USA vs Caribbean.
1500m up now the highlight of the night, event after Mondo and Sha’carri
Is this on Orish TV?
Virgin 3
It was. V3 and BBC2. The Swiss put on a good and very polite show. It’s an eye opener to see how some world class athletes are treated once their race is over.
Tebogo is from Botswana, old pal.
