Is Cathal Dennehy, who writes on athletics, from Limerick?

A man called Pat Dennehy has passed away and he has a son Cathal.

He has a pinned article on his twitter page about running underage in a field in Co Limerick so I’d imagine so

London Diamond League on BBC 1 now.

Rhasidat in 200m later and Healy and O’Sullivan on too

The race to get near the front at the break is mad. English was effectively last despite breaking his hole & then got blocked off a couple of times when trying to get back into position. He finished strongly as he often does but was just too far back, yet that’s his third fastest time ever. The standard is insanely high really.

It’s regarded as a very fast track and home of 800m world record.

Charlie Dobson with a run there that should be well beyond him. Finished like he could have gone around again. Almost super human

Sarah Healy up at 3.15 and Rhasidat at 3.50 I think

The women’s 4x100m relay team broke the Irish record earlier. Sarah Lavin running the final leg. I wonder if she might consider focusing on this more rather than the hurdles.

Healy left herself way too much to do but finished an excellent 3rd. Just outside Ciara Mageeans National Record. She’ll be in the Diamond League final anyway

She’s up in 4 mins at 3.38

4th for Rhasidat. Well off Alfred but they all were. A better run than some of her recent 400m. Finished a lot stronger. Alfred is a beast

He also has an article in the examiner today too about his Dad, Pat Dennehy from Limerick , so probably him alright.

Nice piece

I’d say twas just as well Sharlene had a rest weekend this weekend but I doubt it’ll be that restful.

In Bergen, we won 5 medals in the U23 European Championships. Nick Griggs won his 5th European medal. Nichola Tuthill justified 2nd seed in the hammer. Anika Thompson won Gold in the 10k and bronze in the 5k which in itself is a bonkers achievement - a very small consolation for Cork this weekend. And then Eimear Maher won bronze in the 1500m.

Our biggest medal haul before this weekend was 2 medals and that was when Sophie O’Sullivan beat Sarah Healy in the 1500m 2-3 years ago.

There’s something special brewing in Irish Athletics. A small bit of funding and it could become huge

Jack Raftery finished 4th in the 400m final in the World University Games. Kate currently leads the Heptathlon and is on pace to break here 2021 Irish record. Lauren Roy goes in the 200m semi finals tomorrow. I think Nicola Tuthill goes in the hammer later in the week too, along with Sophie O’Sullivan
