This was misinformation. It now appears to be a tragic accident. Still awful circumstances obviously.

Malachy Clerkin has an interview with Ciara Mageean in The Irish Times today. It’s possibly the first time she’s publicly/specifically stated the cancer is stage 4 (?) & the article preview quote is “I probably won’t make my 40th birthday. That’s rough.”

The show where and goes round with the army fella and Michael darragh mccauley is meant to be very good. She talks about it a lot in that.

You suspected the worst the way she’d talk but as Michael Dara said she was the fittest sick person he ever met.
Sadly, bad bad things happen to really good people.
When I hear about a young healthy person getting cancer I immediately assume it’s a very serious type because otherwise it probably wouldn’t be getting diagnosed. I’ve heard of too many Lilian Boards and Paul Hunters and David Rocastles and see too many death notices of young people who clearly didn’t die of suicide to persuade me otherwise. I chanced upon a case I hadn’t heard of the other night, a lad Finnian Garbutt who was also from County Down was an actor in an BBC NI drama series. He got skin cancer and died two months ago at 28. What you can say except I hope the hell religious people talk about is actually this life.
She’s on with Brendan O’ Connor now, worth a listen back.
She is the best of us.
