luck is a massive factor and while the discussion here has tailed off in another direction you seem to have started it with the above.
you seem to detest is an individuals choice to stand up and fight against an illness, in effect fight for their life, whatever the prognosis.
the alternative is to have your treatment/surgery and take to the bed for the duration and hope for the best. nothing wrong with either imo as cancer is horrendous but to detest one choice over another is odd enough but id put it down to a want for attention on your behalf.
stynes is a fucking inspiration, he should be dead a few times over but he gets up and decides to face up to it and whatever luck he has in staying alive only a grade A cunt would begrudge him that
do you detest the whole depression awareness campaign? or stroke victims in a likewise situation?

anyone see the cancer atlas on the news yesterday, details of where various cancer types seem to cluster in certain areas of the country. very interesting.

you have well and truly got the wrong end of the stick here. carrying around that level of bitterness cant be good for you

what I was getting at was the perception of ‘beating’ cancer and the whole winners and losers thing that has nearly built up around it.

Sometimes the case of who gets cancer in the first place and who survives from it is just pure luck.

good to hear your mam is doing well gman. some very sad stories there lads. Life can be shit. Suppose thats why we should make the most of every day and not worry about crap.

have never come across this perception you speak of… classifying winners and losers, and would doubt it exists really.
i doubt many would see Jim Stynes as a winner, personally i see him as someone just fighting for another few days, weeks, months whatever,

I’d imagine this winners and losers thing is something you’ve made up in your own head. I’ve never heard of anyone refer to somebody who has died due to a cancer related disease as a loser

Melbourne -

Sydney - Load of crap from what i saw, although it was short enough lived. Going back for longer stint in Feb, but really have my doubts about the place.

Melbourne is Australia’s saving grace, again limited enough experience, but definitely the most positive i’ve had so far, loved an awful lot of it. The amount of sport, music & culture to the place is flabbergasting. Beats Perth by a mile and no money will ever make a place like Perth a better destination than somewhere like Melbourne. Unbelievably cheaper as well, had somewhere to stay so that obviously kept cost down but i only spent less than 400 dollars in 5 days there. If i’m to stay in Oz longer than august it will be there i’ll be dropping in.

So far;

Brisbane - Okish, a bit fake and a bit contrived. A nice enough city, but trying to hard to be American (like alot of Oz, and failing badly).
Cairns - Nice place, fuck all work though
Perth - Plenty work & coin, but very expensive & absolutely no soul to the place, zero civic pride. Although i am having a decent experience here, but more my own doing and a bit of luck more than anything.
Sydney - First impressions very poor, but you can’t see that much in a few days. Still really don’t think i’d like it. Unbelievably rude and obnoxious people, but i suppose thats partly expected in one of the big cities.
Melbourne - A fantastic place for someone like me. Despite it being full of Irish they are hidden away nicely and seem to blend in nicely. Brunswick street is just an amazing place for food, beer & Music. Transport is good, its a reasonably priced big city. And sport, there is so much sport going on its not even believable. Some of the outside suburbs that are well served are very nice and have great character and are cheap to live. Again, a brief enough trip, but i’d say anyone could live and get on well in Melbourne, except maybe Fitzy.

Thanks for that Kev. Have an Aussie mate here who grew up in Adelaide but who moved for study and work to Melbourne, absolutely loves the place.

wait til the footie season starts Kev and Melbourne will be a heaven for you. can just stroll down to the MCG or Docklands Etihad or whatever the fuck company sponsers it now and for most games usually handy enough to pick up cheap tickets. just some of the bigger games, Friday night Collingwood/Geelong etc would be sell outs. You should see about going playing aussie rules there too, maybe joine up with Aisake in the lower leagues!

Actually went to the gym doing a program for a mate of his, who is a mate of my missus. He may even pack in the footie i believe as there is alot of money in working a saturday in the Melbourne building industry and the football wasn’t paying that much, but he is playing semi pro, so he could drop lower i suppose and still play. But alot of the Irish i met absolutely are addicted to the AFL, and do exactly what you described. I won’t get to do it for a while though, only on trips as i’m pretty committed to the footy here till April with this team (pre-season), and to be honest i doubt i’d be able to walk away then either so it will be August at the earliest.

Adelaide is a place i must visit Balbec, very mixed reports, but it might be a nice place to chill for a week.

Would have to agree with the two boys, Melbourne is the business, it really is. Perth struck me as a more relaxed older person kinda town, no really much for the 20-35 age range. Melbourne has the lot though.

Melbourne always looked cold in Neighbours. I know they had swimming pools and things but the summer didn’t really come across too well on screen. How hot/cold does it get?

Finbarrs yeah? did the double last year? how you fixed for this season. would be hard to do all the pre season alright and not finish out the championship.

One of my best friends, renowned TFK poster ‘bainne’, has been living in Melbourne for the last 3 or 4 years. I must get around to asking him about the city and whether he likes it or not. I’m guessing that he does given he seems to have no intention of coming home.

A bit of an English vibe I heard.

Sydney is a more beautiful city, but Melbourne is a fantastic city and I would imagine a much better place to live. Plus it has AFL, whereas Sydney is obsessed with the detestable NRL.

No no, my involvement with a GAA club has yet to be decided. I’m with an Aussie Rules club as their S&C Coach. I’m contracted to them for pre-season with a view to full season.

More beautiful i suppose if your taste is modern architecture, but i would have more of a gra for the really old style, roughish, streets in Melbourne. Just a matter of taste really.

I was actually referring to the harbour. Besides, Sydney has planty of architecturally historic buildings.

Oh ya, i’d have to agree there. In fact Melbourne is quite dirty in that regard. I suppose i’m looking at it from where the busy night life etc is. Although i would not have got an overall picture of either really yet. Will really get a gawke at Sydney next month.

Ah right, good stuff. good luck with that. I know some playing with Roleystone, and when I was out there, I went to training with Canning tigers a couple of times. something different sure and good to see how other teams/sports work.

ya, and get paid for it! The 2 GAA clubs i’ve been talking to have taken a month each to discuss money. they think you’d be doing it for the laugh.
