Another “article” with just tweets in it. It doesn’t even say if he played well, or for long, or offer any information at all really.
Guinness, pot of gold, top of the morning to ya … that’s all I got from it.
Cyril Rioli has retired from the game. It will be much, much poorer without him.
In ways a strange decision, and in other ways not at all surprising. He is young, 28, and in good shape. But then its the issues many clubs face with aboriginal players from NT in particular where they want to be home with family. His father had a heart attack and surgery and he wants to be back closer to him. But then again on the flip side, considering his father and uncles football pedigree, you’d have thought their wishes would be for Cyril to play on. And again, flipping it, he has won it all, 4 premierships, a Norm Smith, 3 time AA, there is little left to fight for and Hawthorn are in rebuilding mode so doubtful there is anything left for him to win, so the competitiveness may be gone.
Unrealable player though. this video doesnt do him justice either

What a 4th quarter there with Geelong and Melbourne. Zach just kicked a winner after the siren to complete a huge Geelong comeback. Fair fucks to Tuohy. Got a good goal earlier on too.
CC @myboyblue
Conor McKenna just scored a poxy goal against Sydney just now and then Essendon follow up with another after the siren at half time to go ahead at the break.
Watching it @Fitzy? O’Riordan in his second game playing for the Swans.
This is riordans 3rd game I think.
Is Mark O’Connor featuring much for the Cats these days?
Hasnt got a run in the first side this year from recollection. Is doing reasonably well intheir seconds and was in discussion a month or more ago for getting into the first side but that talk seems to have died down a bit. He signed an extension so is there for another while yet. Might get a run out later in the year, might be dependant on how much Geelong want to shake it up though. They are in 9th now and pushing for the 8.
Not so bad. Thought he might have been injured.
They speak about him in glowing terms down around Dingle.
How has he done after his ban?
McKenna has looked really good here today
havent seen a huge amount of him to be honest. he was out injured for a while too, think this was his first game back for a couple of weeks. Did well today. Made a few good runs from half back and had his goal and made some good tackles. Big win for Essendon too so he might get a run out in finals now too.
@Gman did you see the Gaff punch? This Brayshaw kid won’t be able to eat solid food for a month, horrible stuff. Eagles fans seemed to enjoy it and cheered on Gaff for the rest of the game.
Great win for whats left of the Swans against Collingwood on Friday, we might make it yet.
Sickening alright.
Yeah I was watching it alright. Dumb thing to do. In his slight defence, it didn’t seem like he was aiming for his head, Brayshaw kinda fell a bit just as gaff swung, but it’s no excuse at all. He’ll get a big suspension for it. Could be the end of his career at Perth too. Sad way to end it for a player never before even fined in his playing career to smash a guys face in, but an utter brain fade leaving the guy with serious injury like that can’t have any complaints.
As for the crowd, as feral as they are, wouldn’t have seen a replay of it. If opposition supporters are booing one of your guys, the others will automatically cheer louder for their guy. Particularly when the other team clearly target him for retribution, which is their right but Johnson should get a week off too and Ross Lyon showed himself a cunt telling Valentine to take gaff out at first bounce after 3rd break.
That’s Ross Lyon every week, complete grub of a man.
8 weeks for Gaff. Probably about right. Any less and it makes light of it, any more and it gets way over the top.
Some of the comments on it are amusing tho. The whole “if you did it on the street” is such a ridiculous argument (that we also get here too). Gaff clearly didn’t mean to hit him on the chin, but he still swung a punch so has to take responsibility for it. Land mark suspension so maybe the whole jumper punching and acceptance of allowing punches to the body might start changing.
On further discussion of the gaff punch, Mark Brayshaw is an exceptional man. I listened to Angus talk about it on the AFL exchange podcast and thought he was totally over the top and really made things worse. Then Mark was on triple M and couldn’t have been more compassionate and forgiving. As he said, it was a chest bump gone wrong and his reaction wouldn’t be like that at all if he really thought gaff was out to do him. For a father to be able to take emotion out of it and see it for what it was despite the horrific injury suffered shows great character.
Sydney were some dirt last Saturday too
