Banter or Racism

Do you know what we really need on this forum?

A debate about which band posters prefer- Blur or Oasis.

The forum is crying out for it.

Morning Glory is their best album by a mile you loon.

Not even close, too commercialised and radio friendly.

Definitely Maybe was the peak. The Masterplan was the next best but it was mainly a compilation album of B sides.

He knows as much about judging Oasis albums as he does about US politics

Blur were a far better band, musically and creatively. They will withstand the test of time and still be admired decades from now when Oasis are rightly regarded as the Beatles/Stone Roses cover band they were.

No!!! Definitely Maybe by a fucking country mile.

Agree with Cicero’s sentiments above but Hello is also a great song. Hey Now doesn’t really stand up.

Definitely Maybe was a superb debut, but was eclipsed by Morning Glory. Be Here now was their most commercially successful as evidenced by it’s worldwide sales. It’s also shit, the same song repeated 12 times. The Masterplan is good but its a collection of b sides and Beatles covers, indicating they were a spent force by 1998. Everything released after 1998 is utterly shit.

These two posts contain contradictory opinions

Oasis were a “cover band” who released “a superb debut” and then an album that must have been, well, better than superb, given the posters opinion that Morning Glory was their best album

People always overrate debut albums and underestimate sophomore albums as they are not as striking. There are countless examples, everyone raves about the Arctic Monkeys debut but Favorite Worst Nightmare is a much better effort.

Definitely Maybe was the defitinitive Oasis sound. As good an all as some of the tracks on WTSMG are there might be about 3 or 4 tracks that would have made the cut on DM. WTSMG doesn’t have the same energy and rawness that made DM the best.

Bar Morning Glory there’s not many great live tracks on WTSMG, they are all studio tracks really.

Definitely Maybe had Supersonic, Live Forever, Columbia, Rock N Roll Star, Bring It on Down and Slide Away that you’d have in every single Oasis setlist if you had a choice.

There’s no contradiction (except in your head), both are superb albums, I happen to think Morning Glory is better. Blur are a far more interesting band with a much broader spectrum of musical ideas, and their music will stand the test of time.

Oasis did absolutely nothing that was in any way original, they just did it really well and ran out of ideas quickly.

Superb albums stand the test of time by definition

Given that you’ve stated that Oasis have two superb albums, which is two more than most artists, I think we can say that Oasis will stand the test of time

It was inevitable ye’d end up on oasis vs blur

They are not great live tracks because Oasis weren’t capable of playing them live, the only songs they could pull off live were anthems like the ones you mentioned. They were a very average live band and very poor musicians, mostly cast offs from other bands.

Get it right

Blur v Oasis

Be Here Now is a superb album and Liam’s voice probably peaked around this time.

D’You Know What I Mean, Fade In-Out, Don’t Go Away are masterful.

I didn’t realise you were deaf as well as stupid.

This is epic.

I was on a bus from Galway to Dublin on a very sunny morning a few months back, it was Easter Monday, and as the bus was leaving the suburbs of Galway town, the radio on the bus started playing Country House by Blur

I was suddenly transported back to August 1995, when the grass was parched to hell and Jayo was all the rage and it was going to be Liverpool’s year

That was a great month and the music that was on heavy rotation on Music Television back then was great too

The heavyweight championship battle of Country House v Roll With It
Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me by U2
Violet by Hole
Waterfalls by TLC
Kiss From A Rose by Seal
Alright by Supergrass
A Girl Like You by Edwyn Collins
Hand In My Pocket by Alanis Morissette
Common People by Pulp

If any of these songs came out now they’d win single of the decade
