BBQs and barbecuing - I love ribeye more than I love my kids

What’s so great about it?

I don’t think I lit in January. Not sure what that proves? You are cooking outside in the same conditions?

I’d say I’ve had the bbq out 6 times since February. I cooked steaks on it yesterday. There really is very little effort, plus I like to cook steaks at a high heat so end up smoking out the house when I do it indoors.

Makes me feel manly

I use our BBQ about 3 times a week all year round, more during summer. Do fish on it once or twice a week and usually do a steak or chicken too. Have it set up out in the car port so not weather dependant. It gets a lot of use. Doesnt bother me that its a gas one, makes it easy to cook on it rather than needing to set anything up.

You can add a tray with charcoals in it if you really want that taste on your grub from a gas barbie too.

Of course has it better, nobody in Qld would use coals

How often do ye clean the BBQ? The missus wants the burners and grills cleaned after every use; I’m sick of saying to her that defeats the purpose of the BBQ

man up

Convenience and the amount you use it each year are important factors when considering what to buy and when comparing charcoal vs gas.

I’d say I was cooking steaks on the gas bbq every Sat from start of Jan - prob cooking them at 8-9 pm in the evening. Not a chance you’d get a charcoal going for that. No smoking out the house either.

I’ve a few brushes that I would scrub it down after each use. Would go through a brush every month or two handy. Give the grills and plates a good scrubbing each time, but give the whole thing a proper clean down every couple of months.

Zero use of coals on Aussie barbies unless beads added like I mentioned above.

Even for low and slow BBQ like brisket, it’s gas with indirect heat method used more commonly

Charcoal just isn’t common

I’d be with you, no need to be cleaning it that often.

Let it burn off anything for a good half hour while warming up.

BBQs are self cleaning. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it

You are projecting your own laziness on to me.
Plus who the fuck wants to eat their dinner at 9pm.
