Bolsonaro hero of the Brazilian people/fascist destroyer of democracy

Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro has tried to reassure his citizens over the threat of coronavirus by claiming Brazilians can bathe in excrement “and nothing happens”.

As Brazil’s far-right president Jair Bolsonaro calls on people to return to work despite the advice of medical experts, his government is rolling out a propaganda video with the hashtag Brazil Can’t Stop (#OBrasilNãoPodePara).

The clip, which shows beaming Brazilian workers and professionals, has been shared on Bolsonarista WhatsApp and the president’s son, senator Flávio Bolsonaro, posted it on his Facebook.

Bolsonaro has been widely condemned for his response to the crisis, which he has dismissed as a fantasy and a “media trick”. In a Facebook Live broadcast on Thursday night, Bolsonaro pointed to rising unemployment in the United States – which has overtaken China as the country with most cases of coronavirus – as the reason Brazil needed to get back to work.

“This problem has already started here,” he said, comparing lockdown measures to “that chemotherapy equipment” treatment for cancer.

“They are killing the patient to combat the virus,” he said. “Without money I am dying of hunger, man, dying of hunger. Suicide. Violence comes next.” Bolsonaro also shared a video on Facebook of a parade of cars demonstrating for a return to work in Balneário Camboriú in Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil.

Santa Catarina state will allow restaurants, bars, gyms, shopping centres and shops to open from 1 April, the Estado de S.Paulo newspaper said. Mato Grosso and Rondônia states – also run by rightwing governors – have announced similar measures.

But Brazilian coronavirus cases continued to rise – to 2,991 cases and 77 deaths. And a researcher for the government research institute Fiocruz said hospitalisations for respiratory problems had exploded since the first coronavirus case was confirmed, the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported. There were 2,250 cases from March 15-21, nearly 10 times the norm.

Here’s a separate report from colleagues Tom Phillips and Caio Barretto Briso in Rio de Janeiro.

Things are going really well for Brazil.

I think we can amend the thread title - how interesting that it’s so similar to the fake astro-turf “protests” we’re seeing in the US:

Brazil’s president Bolsonaro joins a protest that asks for a military coup, in front of Brasília’s army headquarters. People in the crowd demand closing Congress and Supreme Court.

The logic & communication is crucial here: Bolsonaro makes it look as if he is a bystander to this, merely responding to public demand. The reality is that protesters have been carefully & systematically induced by the government’s propaganda machine. There is no coincidence here

The thing about lads like Bolsonaro and Trump is that everything they do is utterly predictable. They’re boringly, mind numbingly predictable.

I’m surprised Bolsonaro hasn’t been packing people in for the Copa America. Fully behind closed doors

Some lads here will be calling him a woke communist in light of this.

To the best of my knowledge Brazil has a federal system a bit like the US and it’s state governors or mayors that have the final say on lockdowns and the like.

The fash are the same everywhere.

How it started

How it’s going

Airplane crash incoming

One of those ‘conspiracy theorist’ podcasts predicted that russia would try this. The smart move really. They should just call it the rouble and be done with it.

He seems like the sort that would claim he doesn’t sweat too.

Looks like Mr. Bolsonaro is going to have to stage a Trump style coup if he wants to stay in power. He desperately tried to suppress the vote in Lula supporting areas today by getting the traffic police and the army out.

It looks very much like it has been in vain. Results seemingly inexorably moving in Lula’s favour.

The usual suspects wont like this

I sincerely hope Bolsonaro dies in a fucking fire. Preferably one caused by climate change.

One of the few things you ever imagine being raised in the arsehole of the boglands is pinting with a few lads originally from the Favela after they popped back from voting a pig ignorant cunt out. You’d also realise what a gutless shower of cunts we are in comparison.
