He really hates Don King.

Incredible fight between Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov last night. Unbelievable war and foty so far.

Huge news today with HBO announcing they’ll make no more fights with Golden Boy Promotions in the future. Sport is pretty much officially split in two now, with Top Rank fighters exclusively on HBO and GBP fighters exclusively on Showtime. Crazy shit really. Tons of great fights that will never be made because of it. HBO and Showtime are going to war.

That was the build-up to the Trinidad fight, right after 9/11. Hopkins played the patriotic card for that one.

This is why UFC is taking over with the younger crowd boxing will be extinct if these fuckers keep it up their a fuckin disgrace fuck u de la hoya and fuck you bob arum

Another solid win for Joe ward in the WSB tonight. Irishman Conrad Cummings battering a scot around the ring at the mo. John Joe nevin and Joyce still to come -someone really has to come up with the spends to put together an Irish team for this!!!

It certainly doesn’t help. A big part of the UFC’s success though, is the fact that there are lots of white American champions. Not many of those in boxing.

That’s not really true anymore though. At the start star former wrestlers were certainly dominant, but most of the champions now are Beazilian, Black, Brown or French Canadian.

You have a point, but I still believe the match ups and guys having a different attitude to loss in your record helps UFC. Losing is not the end of the world, Boxing exists in this fantasy world of looking for perfect fighters. It’s a bit crazy really.

Both are dominated financially by a few small groups, all Dana White saw was another angle to make money, I think his way of selling it to people was using it as an alternative to boxing. It worked very well.

As a slightly related note they are trying to ban cage fighting (thus UFC and it’s coverage too) in WA. Seems they have a shot at it too which is pretty amazing. If course it’s ridiculous and will create a massive underground illegal game which already has a base with the Bikies here. Not ti mention the many legitimate businesses that they will put under. The recent landslide win for the Nationals here gives an indication it might well win.

It’s bad alright, massey. I saw an interview with that prick DuBoef who’s going to take over Top Rank whenever Arum croaks, and he denied outright that there were any fights not being made that the fans wanted to see. This was literally weeks after they whole farce surrounding the Donaire-Mares negotiations where the whole lot of them just argued with each other on twitter.

The situation with Top Rank fighters in the welterweight neighbourhood is insane altogether. Arum has Pacquiao, JMM, Rios, and Bradley at the top level and they can only fight each other and no one else if they want to make a big fight. That’s why Pacquiao’s options essentially boil down to a second fight with Bradley or a fifth fight with Marquez. Rios is fighting Alvarado for the second time and Bradley’s reward for ‘beating’ Manny was a fight with an unknown Russian that took nine months to put together.

Bradley’s career has more or less stalled because he gambled on going with Top Rank to get the Pacquiao fight. And now the poor fucker has no one to fight. Golden Boy on the other hand have Mayweather, Canelo, Trout, Guerrero, Berto, Thurman, Ortiz, Alexander, Garcia, Khan, Peterson, and Matthysse all in that class between 140 and 154. Not to mention Broner who they’re doing their best to package as Mayweather the 2nd.

Of course DLH and Schaefer for all their talk are every bit as bad for protecting fighters, and Haymon seems to be able to get guys massive money no matter what kind of bum he puts in with them, but at least you’re looking at a situation where nearly all the top talent will be in one stable once Pac and Marquez are gone. And with GBP putting forward the idea of this 140lb tournament you’d hope that for a while at least, all the promotional shite will be gone as an obstacle to the fights we want to see.

Middleweight destroyer Gennady Golovkin in action shortly - http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/177898/1/watch-gennady-golovkin-vs-nobuhiro-ishida.html I think Borat is doing the commentary.

What are your early thoughts on Donaire and Rigondeaux WTB?

Golovkin is a monster. Probably the knockout of the year so far.

Great fight, was hoping for ages that they would put it together. Tough to call though. Rigo is obviously an exceptional technician, ridiculously slick, but he just hasn’t faced anyone on Donaire’s level. His defence is arguably the second or third best in the sport, but he was wobbled by a couple of left hooks against Marroquin which would make you wonder if he can handle Donaire’s power. Donaire’s left hook is possibly the best punch in the entire sport and if he lands it clean, then it’s very hard to see Rigondeaux taking it. On the other hand, Donaire has been frustrated by defensive minded fighters in the fairly recent past, most notably Narvaez who he won comfortably against on the scorecards but struggled badly to land anything significant on all night. Rigondeaux is a hell of a lot harder to hit than Narvaez, and his straight left is easily dangerous enough to make Donaire pay if he gets reckless.

Donaire has been in with big punchers before though and he’s beaten them all. He’s also got a height and reach advantage that means Rigo will have to take risks is he wants to get inside the jab and take the fight to him. So on balance, the smart money is probably on Donaire. He’s proven at the elite level, he’s had his chin checked a few times (although not against as technically an excellent puncher as Rigo), and he’s a lot more than just a puncher himself, even if it’s what he’s become known for.

Still, it’s really hard to call. It should be a fascinating fight if not an action packed one, and with a guy as good as Rigondeaux you just can’t rule anything out. It’s going to be a legacy enhancing victory for whoever wins it.

You watch the Rios-Alvarado rematch last night, massey? It was an epic. Gatti-Ward stuff.
