BREXIT thread

This is a worrying development. I fear it’ll send the self-loathers over the edge.

The DUP neanderthals are calling the shots now

Imagine the panic that would set in in both the tories and dup if sinn fein took up their seats in the UK parliament. Foster would probably spontaneously combust with the rage

All sinn fein have to do is sit back and watch. The bigger the mess the better as far as a border poll is concerned.

What concessions? All the stuff in that article has been common knowledge for a long time.

How are the DUP playing “a blinder”, given that a lot of their core vote stand to be decimated by their intransigence?

What exactly can Sinn Fein do, given they’re in a position of no power?

I don’t know what rock you have been hiding under but the Irish Government and the EU have been saying there will be no hard border on the Island of Ireland, now that it is coming down to the crunch and the back stop is the major sticking point the EU are going ask us to concede this for the good of EU. That is the concession.

The DUP are playing a blinder because they are getting everything the DUP want, whether it is good or bad for NI they don’t give a shit as long as what they get suits the DUP.

By Sinn Fein taking their seats in Parliment it would mean that May would have had a stronger hand in dealing with hardline Brexiteers, Instead she is stuck with the DUP who wont back her on anything unless the back stop is removed.

Can you imagine any self respecting head of state allowing Sarkozy pat your head like a good little puppy. Paddy lapped it up

The avoidance of a hard border in Ireland has always been dependent on the Brits passing a withdrawal agreement.

There’s nothing in that article about the EU leaning on Ireland to drop the demand for a backstop, because they aren’t doing that.

The article headline refers to “concessions” but doesn’t actually mention any concessions in the article. What it refers to is something that everybody has known about for a long time.

The headline and framing are clickbait journalism.

The DUP are one of the parties that are pushing the six counties towards economic catastrophe and are significantly increasing the chances of a united Ireland happening sooner rather than later, as well as increasing the chance that Scotland leaves.

Playing a blinder they are not, given that they are making more likely the one thing above all that their existence as a party aims to avoid.

Sinn Fein have seven Westminster seats. That’s sod all. The only situation where they could have any power is if May’s deal is seven votes or less short of passing. May’s deal was voted down by 230 votes.

Outside of that, they have no influence.

Is Sidney willfully ignoring the statement by the commission yesterday that there will be an EU enforced hard border in Ireland post no deal

We cant concede it though can we? Actually not within our gift to concede it.

Anybody who has followed Brexit already knew there would be a hard border in a no deal situation. And the UK must enforce that border equally.

The EU and Irish govt have said no such thing . What they have said is that a soft border will be part of a whole deal .

SF , even if they stupidly took seats without a mandate , would have little say truth told .

This is what’s going to happen

Article 50 will be extended.
Airbus upped the ante with their statement this morning.

he fucking gave it to them. Enders game

“Please don’t listen to the Brexiteers’ madness which asserts that, because we have huge plants here, we will not move and we will always be here. They are wrong,”

They’d be best off withdrawing it altogether. And that is a possibility.

We’ll move the airbus jobs to the harland and wolff shipyard and reunite Ireland.

A big possibility. I wouldn’t be a fan of Corbyn either but he’s playing this quite well at the moment

The consequences of a 2nd referendum, or even worse just withdrawing article 50 without it, would be dire. Even a lot of hardcore remainers think that the result of the referendum should be honoured. There would be huge political unrest if this was the outcome.

Nothing compared to the unrest if Airbus shut their doors and moved everything to Monaghan
