BREXIT thread

Some pro Brexit gobshite on Newsnight telling us that “if I was Theresa May I wouldn’t be going to Brussels, I’d be going to Berlin. The Germans pay the piper and they call the tune.”

The Brits have spent 30 years spinning the dystopian fantasy that the EU is a German conspiracy to take over Europe.

Since Brexit, they’ve turned that idea on its head into a utopian fantasy where Germany will give them everything they want.

It’s all about Audis and Prosecco.

But in a no deal scenario, how long before the Brits come grovelling back to the table?

Would May’s original deal still be on offer if, after three weeks or a month of no deal, the Brits decided it was intolerable?

If German car manufacturers had any real power as regards the EU, they could easily have intervened back in 2016 so that Britain could have remained part of the single market yet got an exemption from free movement.

I think that point is lost on Brexiteers.

Yeah - I can’t imagine it would be long and I’d agree their negotiating position would be a lot weaker. Once it gets to that stage though your into uncharted territory all round so it’s pretty risky

The alternative, ie. the EU giving into British demands, is much riskier, and hence won’t happen.

“She’s did it!!! Now it’s over to EU…” is the headline in tomorrow’s Daily Express - unbelievable

We are paying back billions in interest to the EU banks, we will be looked after.

I do hope that’s a verbatim quote.

Pearse Doherty on TV3 here is complaining about Leo Varadkar raising the prospect of troops on the border.

Strange that, given his own party leader attended a demonstration at the weekend where mock troops with guns stood in front of a mock border wall.

Still though, given it’s the Daily Express we’re talking about, it was quite believable they’d make such an error.

The UK is about to get tough with the EU

Ah brilliant

Sinn Fein are only interested in fiddling expenses for the two parliaments they don’t attend and sending representatives out to the inaugurations and funerals of dictators in the likes of Venezuela and Cuba. They are not a proper political party. This absentionism policy is a load of bollocks too. You don’t have to swear a oath as MP Mark Durkan has stated. If there was work in the bed, Sinn Fein would sleep on the floor. They are political dinosaurs like the DUP

There’s no talking to people.

The express was making out lady Di kidnapped madeleine mccann before brexit became the golden goose. I’d disregard it. The sun and mirror have more credibility.
This has played right into teresa mays hands unfortunately. I’d say she is vexed she lost the other amendment, which is a vague warning shot across her bows, but she is first and foremost utterly self serving. She is also not the brightest, which @Fagan_ODowd was first to point out. She wants brexit, and doesn’t really care how or why, as she perceives it as her legacy. This allows her to run the clock right down, which was her original intention. She would prefer a deal, but doesn’t really give a fuck either way, as she has zero interest in the welfare of individuals.
