The UK is in far better shape economically than most of the rest of the EU. The UK is still growing at about 1.5% and has low employment, Germany which is the engine of the EU is now in recession. As Germany goes so goes the rest of the continent. Southern Europe is a shambles of welfare states with zero or negative growth and high unemployment.
I supported the right of the people who live in the UK to decide whether they wanted to be in the EU or not. The UK always somewhat outside the EU by not adopting the Euro. It’s now abundantly clear that British politicians are incapable of running a hen house let alone a country so I would fear for them after Oct 31 whatever the outcome.
Hillary Clinton would have been a disaster for the US. As it is, for all Trumps flaws, no new wars, and the economy is still growing at north of 2%. Trump is the first US (or European) politician to stand up to China stealing products designed in the west and dumping exports below cost.
You haven’t a notion how an economy works and what most normal people care about. Every country that is prosperous has a free market economy, it’s the only route to wealth creation. Hard left policies lead to wealth destruction and capital flight, what’s in store for the UK if Corbyn gets power.
The rank and file Labour MPs have no balls whatsoever. Corbyn is trying to have his cake and eat it on Brexit. The Tories whether you like it or not have a clear stance on Brexit, leave, deal or no deal. The Lib Dems have a clear policy, repeal article 50, might be undemocratic but at least they are willing to put that to the electorate. But Labour are committing to neither. Hoping to hold onto their trendy “remain” seats in Islington and their “leave” seats oop North. UKIP will take the “leave” seats and the Lib Dems the "remain’ seats.
Labour has a clear policy - Unity. As for the others policies, the Tories are in freefall and have been exposed for the fanatics they are, just ask Kenny Clarke. The Lib Dems are just Ukip the other way round. Labour are the party of the people and the right wing nuts are absolutely bricking it
Corbyn’s stance on Brexit does two things that are eminently sensible
It recognises that any Tory Brexit would be disastrous
It recognises that the issue of Brexit cannot simply be wished away - it is a festering sore that can only be healed in the way it was opened - by public consultation
Common sense is now rejected by self styled “intelligent” people because it isn’t a shrieking mess of a “clear” policy as the Tories and Lib Dems have - for “clear” read simplistic bollocks
The harm to the working class that you are referring to was mostly done by Democrats in the US (Clinton mostly) and Labour in the UK (Blair). The rush towards outsourcing and globalization started in the 1990s and was cheered on by Democrats and Labour. Trade unions paid their part as well, by making burdened salaries noncompetitive in these countries. Unions belong to the 19th century, look at the technology companies that have driven economic growth in recent decades, they tolerate zero unions. Treat your employees right as most technology companies do, you don’t need unions.
The highest paying jobs in Ireland are with US multinationals, do you think workers in these companies suffer for want of a union? Or do you think workers suffered in companies that fled Ireland previously because of unions?
The answer isn’t a swing to the hard left, the answer is promoting investment and entrepreneurship locally and resisting predatory practices from China. Everything that Corbyn stands for (anti capitalism) would result in wealth fleeing the UK and going elsewhere. There are plenty places for the wealthy to go that are far more business friendly (Singapore, Luxemburg, etc.).
The answer to improving the lot of working class people is education so they have the skills for the economy of today, and investment in those that will drive the economic growth of tomorrow.
It must have been a great decision to send the British Army into NI so.
I hate Corbyn because he’s going to lose to Barmy Boris. Most of Corbyn’s positions are sensible enough but that’s not the point. He’s going to lose to Boris and he can get fucked. And Corbyn is wrong on Brexit, you said so yourself a long time back Sid.
It’s always struck me that the hard left lean too far towards dragging people down to a level. The hard right want to shove people down from their level, and occupy the vacated territory themselves. The centre left, the natural place for the average punter in the UK try to do a little pulling down, and pulling up, as it should be.
Right wing nuts like those above who never fail to express their inexplicable hatred for Jeremy Corbyn already have their minds made up that Corbyn is Stalin/Hitler and Chairman Mou all in one go. They believe any old shite the media tells them to.
The people, however, are not so brainwashed, they voted for Corbyn in the last election and shredded the Tory majority, something that has broke the Conservatives in two. Just wait until you see what the people will do next
