Rip it out ta fuck

I can’t think of any downside. If it ever came to it you can usually get a converter for anything that needed to sent over a copper line.

Thats my own gut feeling alright

High-risk strategy this close to xmas…rip it out then current broadband is dead…youd want the fibre man on fairly lively…if no netflix for xmas id have to mind the kids

The duct must be tiny?

Landlines are pointless. Rip it out, price of progress.

Looks like the size of an alkadin pipe if that makes sense to you

I’m guessing they just want to use the copper wire to pull through the fibre. If they had half a brain in their head they’d pull back a pull-through using the copper. Then pull back the copper and the fibre together.

Thats pretty much it. But the duct wont take both wires so they want to use the copper wire to essentially thread in the fibre line

Why will there be a risk the fibre wont be installed so? Is it one crew giving you the line and then a different crew coming to do the router? You couldn’t rely on KN though, the most useless shower of bastards going.

Hard to believe that. Should be a two inch pipe. But obviously something isn’t right here.

Might be worth digging it up. Otherwise if you stay in the house long term you’ll hit this problem time and time again.

Yes. KN came out. Flagged the problem told me fix it myself and they would come back and instal the fibre line. So a pal of mine who would know came out and had a look at it and gave me the two options…

Do you know what alkadine is? Same size of a duct as that. Def not 2 inches

Re 2nd pt. I will def be in the house long term. In what situation might this create an issue in the future?

Did KN tell you they would use the copper wire to pull the fibre cable through the duct? We got it installed about a year ago and my recollection is that they wouldn’t touch it as it’s officially Openeir infrastructure. I had a pull rope in the duct ready for them.

I’d say they didn’t put a slow bend in the duct and that’s why they can’t get two through. That duct looks plenty wide enough

No. But I got a call from Sky (who I am getting fibre from) and the fella suggested exactly that. Put a pull rope onto the end of the copper landline…pull it through and KN will then use the pull wire to bring the fibre line through the duct into the house…

Was it a handy enough job for you to

  1. Pull landline through with the pull rope?
  2. KN to then pull fibre line through?

I wouldn’t do it until KN were coming up the road. You couldn’t trust them to turn up after you do it and as you said a christmas with no broadband would be a scary experience.

Apparently they get paid per call out so they are encouraged to use any excuse to leave and come back.
