What’s a nice second hand car to buy in the €5-10k range? Audi A4 I suppose? Any decent jeeps be got for that @carryharry?

Audi A4, Skoda Octavia or Superb, Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis.

If buying petrol engine mileage shouldn’t be an issue, if after Diesel then higher mileage to be expected with your budget.

As regards a SUV or Jeep style effort. If willing to buy petrol then a Toyota Rav or Nissan Xtrail.
If Diesel, engine size could be an issue with tax on models above so I’d look at the Hydundai Sante Fe, Kia Sportage or Suzuki Grand Vitara which are all 2.0lt.

Go to the UK and get a Skoda Superb. You’d get a good one for 12k euro.

@carryharry or others

Does anyone (reputable) provide a service down here that would import a car from UK for you. Been scouting around and looks to be savage value but I know fuck all about cars myself and would be slow to buy one up there without some expertise involved.

Basically someone who would take away my requirements and come back to me with a car, that they would then take over the gtee on for the year or whatever. I know it would work out more expensive but dont really have time to spend traipsing up and down to NI or over to UK on a fools errand.

Someone posted a link to a crowd that will buy your preferred car at auction and import it for you.

However, I think you’re overestimating the amount of work involved in importing a car from the UK. Have you looked at cargiant.co.uk? It’s a great place to start.

There are lots of lads who will do that for you.

I’m not certain they will get a car for you, prepare and warranty it for much less than a dealer here.

What are you after?

a low milage (sub 50k) pasaat

Wouldn’t be gone on them, but here’s an example.

yeah it looks like an unreal website. Will do a bit of searching later.

its for my missus. She has had three in a row without a bother so keep it simple.

@gilgamboa, look up Tom Moran in Wellingtonbridge in Wexford. He’ll find you whatever you want in the UK. Manufacturers guarantee will stand regardless of country so often dealers don’t need to give one if its less than 3 years

That’s a nice highline Passat. I would to buy from a Volkswagen dealer in Ireland. When you factor in peace of mind and after sales service (if required) it is worth the money.

I wouldn’t trust that mileage.

Shhh!

They certainly talk a good game on their website. Have you used them personally or only heard of them third party? This line however suggests they only deal with you if you’re looking for a quality car - ‘As specialists in sourcing and supplying prestige, luxury and bespoke cars to clients in Dublin and throughout Ireland…’ Mentions then of mercs, BMWs and Ferraris after that. Have they a minimum spend requirement do you know? I.e nothing under £5k as an example.

That’s the one I was thinking of.

Go around the garages here and pick a model/year you are happy with. There is a 1.6 Passat which is slow and has gremlins. Consider the 2.0

See what it costs you.

Go to autotrader.co.uk and stick in a UK code - try W12 7HQ in honour of one of the forum fallen.

Try to look at main dealers, rather than Boycie types.

Get an equivalent car and see what it would cost you to bring home.

Ask yourself if it is worth it or not. A person who sources cars will narrow the gap significantly.

Anyone know someone reputable who is Munster based that’ll source cars in the UK for Irish customers who send them a wish list? @carryharry I separately know two cowboys who do this for a living but would not use either (precisely because they are cowboys). I’d rather pay a fella a percentage to do the donkey work than get a ferry to the UK myself and then drive up and down the country looking at cars of which I don’t know what to look for under the hood anyway.

Sure those lads have no clue either. Get a bank draft for however much you want to spend, and bring an extra grand or two in cash. Go to car giant and pick a car on the day. Fella I know did it last week and brought back a nice 2013 Golf for about 10k.
