Anyone know if this is still the case as it was in 2011? £50 for VRT on a commercial? Do you need a certain license to drive a commercial vehicle?

It was mega so it was.

Normal licence okay. What you looking at?

A milk float.

Anything commercial as long as the VRT is only €50! I’ll buy something from UK there is no value here. What counts as commercial, vans only? Or jeeps too?

One of my nephew’s is restoring an old f150 truck, raised suspension and 22’s i think. I’m a chevy person myself.

Commercial jeeps are cheap in Ireland but not fuel efficient. Car van or small Berlingo / Caddy type vans far better on fuel if you don’t mind road noise & less comfort.

Not much value in small vans in the UK from what ive seen carry

What about up North? Seen a few vans on autotrader up there. Anyone know a fairly reputable (large preferably) second hand car/van/jeep seller up north?

Do you mind me asking what this vehicle will be used for, I know fuck all about cars but I’ve read it that you are looking for a van to use as a car to save a few bob. Please tell me I’m wrong. :pensive:

Van for leisure use yeah, so I won’t have to pay a bomb on VRT. I was looking at a Ford Mondeo from cargiant - 2013 with 60k miles or that and costing £8995. All well and good but I did a VRT calculation and it would cost me €4400 on VRT! Fellas were saying here in old posts a few years ago that VRT was €50 for a commercial vehicle. Its not clear on the VRT website if that’s correct but I think I saw €200 today for VRT on a commercial.

Get a commercial Hyuandai Santa Fe if this is the road you want to go down.

Have you a business or a job that qualifies you to run a commercial vehicle?

No, does it matter?

Surely have a herd number at home?

No. I need cause to have a commercial van do I? I’m self employed that would surely help? Although I don’t be driving much. I’m not a delivery man, salesman, tradesman. I suppose I could say I’d to have a van in case I’d to buy a big printer and drive it home.

Out of the car game a good few years so I’m open to correction here, but my understanding of Taxing a Car Van, Van or Commercial jeep without a Vat number or Herd number will result in paying road tax based on Engine size as opposed to Comm Tax set at €302.
A Comm 3.0lt Jeep could result in Tax of €800 +.

Not sure about the VRT on an import if you don’t meet the criteria above. But as Massey says, no need to be looking to the North or UK to pick up good value in a van like a Berlingo down here.

€6k would get you a good van.

Are you registered for vat?

I have a VAT number. Is this sufficient? You’ve a van don’t you?

Vat number & your laughing. If you buy up North you pay no vat on Commercial purchase. VRT is €50 too*

Edit : think VRT has risen to €200, mate.
