RIP John

Not a celeb.

You obviously didn’t follow him on Instagram

Correct. He was a lot more than that.

A story from a friend of mine.

Saw him in Busarus once getting on the bus to Derry. This was well after the GFA, c.2004/05. Very difficult to imagine any two-bit county councillor down here getting on a bus nevermind a political colossus like Hume. Spoke volumes about the humility of the man.

This is ripe for a deli counter quip

Northern Ireland’s greatest. A man with peace and equality as his core values. RIP.

What’s with the partitionist nonsense? Are you one of these idiots that thinks storms / weather and viruses stop at the invisible border?

Vile remark.

You’ll call pube head one of Ireland’s greatest but you relegate Hume to partitionism…you vile quisling pig.

Fine. Hume is one of Ireland’s greatest ever men. Are you happy with that ?

No need to be arguing. It’s disrespectful towards a great Irishman

I’m not arguing, I’m educating.

RIP

Am I remembering correctly was Eamon Dunphy continually attacking him back when the Dunph was head honcho at the Sindo

That’d be a first for a Mary I alum

Ooooffftttt

Up your bollix @Thomas_Brady

‘The greatest injustice in Northern Ireland is the taking of human life. People can get the vote, people can come out of prison but people can’t come out of the grave’.

That was a Hume quote and sums up the Troubles for me,

Would you say a few voted from the grave?

You are correct .

I think Dunphy belatedly apologised for it, but the likes of Eilis O’Hanlon, Ruth Dudley Edwards, Eoghan Harris and Conor Cruise O’Brien went after Hume for years after the first IRA ceasefire. There are a few pictures of Sindo articles from that time being posted on twitter etc in the wake of today’s sad news.
