This is very true.
My point about anyone who tries to spin this is anyway positive is that we have a huge goalkeeping crisis and weāre solving it with a washed up basket case. We are paying Ā£1m for him and giving him a 3 year deal worth close to another Ā£3m. Meanwhile we are scrimping around lowballing clubs and players on transfers which might actually be great value.
Hard to disagree tbh.
Nobody else is in for Harte.
Thereās a keeper who won a European Cup a few weeks back available on a free transfer right now. Should we at least not be making enquiries for him? Iād like to know who Hartās agent is and how he is connected here. Thereās a reason nobody will touch him with a bargepole.
Heās at a Premier League club. He hasnāt been out in the wilderness for years. Craig Gordon was far more washed up when he was signed.
The wages arenāt too bad. Any qualified keeper at all will be wanting 15k a week. Iād be more worried if we were tying up 30k a week on him but heās just getting the money we need to give to some keeper.
I get you think heās washed up and finished. Maybe he is. Iād rather we signed someone else. But Iād certainly rather signing Hart to signing no keeper and itās a low enough cost gamble.
Ah come off it.
How are you trying to spin this into a positive FFS. Letās cut the shit, the guy is bombscare, thatās the reason heās had three failed loan spells and two failed short term deals in succession - none of the clubs wanted him around after. He has played 30 games in 3 years and his statistics are absolutely shocking.
There are no positives here, itās an utterly appalling deal and will not fix or improve us in any way whatsoever. Weāll still have a goalkeeper problem next January with an additional wage bill drain for the next three years. Enjoy Scott Bain back in goals in November.
Iām not spinning anything.
Iād rather we signed someone else.
But we havenāt overpaid for Hart if those numbers are true.
He was playing at a performance level on a completely different plane to Bain.
Barkas was brutal last year but I thought he deserved another chance. He took said chance and he absolutely blew it unfortunately. Again.
As annoying a character as Hart is I think he deserves the same chance as Barkas had. He is clearly taking a big pay cut because he presumably wants to play. So his attitude seems decent in that respect. And maybe with determination and confidence he can get back to the form he showed at his peak.
Iām open minded on him. Iām not even cautiously optimistic. But Iām not going to write him off on the basis of just assuming heāll be shit.
How can you overpay for a 34 year old basket case goalkeeper nobody wants?
By giving his club, where he is 3rd choice keeper Ā£1m and giving him a 3 year contract worth over Ā£2m.
He has been playing at a performance level that has been as bad as or worse than Bain or Barkas for about 5 seasons now. Heās been ran out of 5 different clubs, has nobody interested in him and Celtic somehow think this fucking imposter will fix things.
We are as well sign nobody than sign Joe Hart, thatās about the end of it. Heās awful and itās not a cheap deal. Heās on a 3 year deal and will be one of our highest earners. Itās a bananas move and trying to state anything otherwise is putting your head in the sand.
You still think weāll invest in the squad, do you?
If Celtic are haggling over a few thousand euros a week for a right back they can get to fuck
Before @thedancingbaby time but the biscuit tin mentality is back.
Imagine paying for a season ticket last year, not going to games and get treated like this
Iām with @Rocko on this one, I donāt think Hart is a jaw dropping signing and personally Iād rather it was a two year deal with an option of a third, but for 1m and 15k a week it could turn out to be a great piece of business. We have revitalised worse before. Barkas was 5m and 10k a week and a scarecrow would do more inbetween the sticks
Barkas has played a little over 20 games for Celtic. Whatās his worse error been?
He hasnāt been great but I think because heās foreign he gets absolute pelters.
Iād still entrust Barkas over either Bain or Hart. Iāve seen far more of the other two and they are apalling goalkeepers.
23 games is what Barkas has played for Celtic.
Itās clear he was thrown under a bus by Lennon last season, his confidence is shot but I think thereās a good keeper there. 23 games is hardly enough to judge him on particularly when heās gone through a bad spell.
Hart on the other hand has burned through 5 clubs in 5 years and been a disaster at each one.
JHās concession record is really rather remarkable.
If anyone thinks Hart will improve the goalkeeping situation in any aspect, they must not have watched much football in the past 5 years.
He must have a great puc out.
Ah here. Barkas has been beyond dreadful. An embarrassment of a goalkeeper. A mute with no hands or arms.
I think thatās just Daily Record spin. Same journalist was mentioning red tape holding up the huns signing a Colombian starlet.
My sources tell me Buta is in Glasgow. Iām also hearing positive noises about McCarthy.
