Nisbet wasnā€™t in the Hibs squad today. Injured?

There were two posters on here saying exactly what Lennonā€™s re-appointment was at the time.
Other, less knowledgeable people thought it a great appointment. šŸ¤·ā¤ļø

Nobody on here thought it was a great appointment.

Reports in Greece seem to be indicating Giakoumakis is close to Celtic.

Burnley remain keen on Celticā€™s Ryan Christie and are ready to ramp up their interest before the close of the window.

The Clarets have been long-term admirers of the Scotland international and have made several moves, but are aware that Christie can now sign a pre-contract and move on a Bosman in January.

Burnley are still looking for their first points of the Premier League season and manager Sean Dyche is looking to add to his attacking threat.

He has put forward a list of targets that includes Christie, Watfordā€™s Will Hughes and Lyonā€™s Maxwell Cornet.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has already said he would like his club to get the playmaker tied down to a new contract, with the 26-year-oldā€™s future in limbo for the best part of a year.

Serie A side Sampdoria are among the clubs who have registered an interest in Christie in recent weeks.

As well as seeking to tie the Scotland international to a new deal, Postecoglou is still looking to add to his squad.

He is keen on another central defender, which would likely be loan move, and will look at a versatile midfielder and another striker - especially if Odsonne Edouard was sold before the close of the window.

Brighton and Crystal Palace both remain interested but it remains to be seen if they could agree personal terms.

The Frenchman has also been linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus over the past 24 hours.

Celtic also remain keen on Venlo striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

Werder Bremen have gone back in to try and seal a deal but Ange Postecoglou remains in the fight.

Reading between the lines seems like the Greek is using Celtic and wants the Bremen deal

Burnley would be a terrible move for Christie.

Iā€™ve seen some rumours that Christie might sign a short term deal to take him to the end of this coming season, and so heā€™ll be able to leave on a free next summer.

Fuck him if thatā€™s the case.

Would you not rather we had him for the season? Chance to replace him from the J League in January then.

Nah.

Plan ahead Iā€™d say. Go an buy a McCann or Lovric and let him be.

If we get a decent offer for Edouard then we should take it too.

I think Celtic should be making good offers for these players? How much would it take to replace Edouard? Iā€™d say minimum Ā£10m for a ready made replacement in his quality. So whatā€™s the problem with giving him a Ā£50k pw contract for 3 years and putting a Ā£20-Ā£25m release clause? He might not accept it as you will point out but why donā€™t we at least pose the questions. Same applies to Christie. Are we better off losing a player who would fetch close to Ā£10m if he was under contract for 3 years for nothing or are we as well put an outlay of Ā£4-5m on the table for him over the next few years. Itā€™s unacceptable if we havenā€™t put these terms on the table IMO.

We have certainly offered Christie a new deal and Iā€™d imagine itā€™s on good terms. But he wonā€™t sign it. Iā€™d say we are still trying to get him to sign up. Ultimately it depends on whether he wants money and a crap EPL club and the chance of another move or does he want to try and win things at Celtic. He might be persuaded to sign something with a relatively low release clause.

Edouard on the other hand just wonā€™t sign anything. All the indications are that he wants huge money and he has had this mapped out for a few seasons now.
Given how keen he is on moving on heā€™d be a lunatic to sign a new deal with that sort of release clause.

Anyway I think theyā€™re different cases.

We would only get a token fee for Christie because he can just sign a pre contract now. But heā€™s playing very well and he fits the system really well. We are already probably looking at 50% new players in our starting eleven and we are short on attacking cover so I think weā€™re just shooting ourselves in the foot if we donā€™t try and keep him at least in the short term.

Edouard is a different matter. Heā€™s not playing as well and we still have a chance or getting multiple millions for him. It would be much harder to turn that down given he is extremely committed to leaving.

At Celtic realistically he has a good shot at Scottish titles only really. At Burnley heā€™ll win little, but, and itā€™s a big but, heā€™ll get to play at Anfield, OT, Elland Road, etc., and that must be attractive. Iā€™d imagine he will earn 10k a week more. I wouldnā€™t blame him for moving though Iā€™d love him to stay. Burnley though :grimacing:
If I were running Celtic Iā€™d take any offer north of 10million for Edouard, because heā€™s just running the clock down, and whilst heā€™s potentially a 30million striker, his value to Celtic is nowhere near that unless he signs a new contract.
Iā€™d offer Christie as much as I could afford to stay as heā€™s grafted away , as long as Ange wants him.

Thatā€™s fine and well but thereā€™s no indication Celtic have made either of these players a decent offer to stay.

I do think if you offered Edouard a 50k pw 3 year deal with a release clause of Ā£20m heā€™d have a good think about it.

Henry joins Venezia for ā‚¬6m plus bonuses. Feel like we really missed a trick there.
