He’s played to a level above anyone in the spl pretty much albeit some years ago.
The present is the best barometer. He’s coming into his 30s, last seen loitering around the Championship and nobody is in for him.
Agreed. Released by a Championship club. He’s long finished. People think the SPL is a handy number. Countless players past their peak who have been embarrassed in Scotland have proven otherwise.

I think he’d be 8/9th choice in midfield. If we are cutting the likes of Ntcham free a year early then it would be ridiculous to go out and take on Wilshere.

Things gone quiet again on the signing front.
Scales is obviously a done deal that will be done before the window closes.
Conflicting reports on Giakoumakis everywhere on whether he’s going to Celtic or Bremen.
Apart from that it’s very quiet. Apart from outgoings, I still think we need a left back, centre half and winger on top of Scales.
I would say it looks very unlikely Edouard will go now.
I don’t think the spl is a handy number, far from it, but Wilshere at his best was a fantastic player, and he’s in his twenties, not 38. A good manager should be able to get value from him.
He may be a knacker, or, more likely, caught by high wages and COVID related financial constraints. He’s mainland based, well used to getting kicked up and down Shadwell Kennel on a wet windy night, and may be a bargain.
The list of players you describe isn’t “countless”, few were ever at his level and still in their twenties, if any.

Think he’s had chronic ankle problems too and has barely played in recent years.

He’s not long finished because of his age. He’s long finished because he hasn’t played a decent number of games in a long time and has been unemployed for about 18 of the last 24 months. He hasn’t been at his best or even close to it for many years.
He was brilliant. I hate seeing anyone written off at 28. Such is life I suppose.
The Ange press conference today said nothing concrete but that we were looking at contingency plans if something happened in the next couple of days with Edouard or Christie. I’d say we’re still expecting a bid.
A bit of a backup plan lined up for anticipated transfer offers and calling out the huns for their racism, all in the same week. Maybe Lawwell has actually left the stage altogether
