Celtic Transfer Window Summer 2021

Doubtful Iā€™d say as he wonā€™t have trained or anything. Think Montgomery has earned that spot for Sunday anyhow.

Is scales a good signing for Celtic?

Donā€™t think he solves any of Celticā€™s problemsā€¦ they need a commanding centre half ā€¦ the two goals last night were shockers ā€¦ itā€™s schoolboy stuff how Welsh letā€™s the ball bounce before harts mistake ā€¦ then the second goal again no defender goes and attacks the ball into the danger zone before starfelts calamity ā€¦

Starfeldt has moved country in the middle of a pandemic, and is trying to slot into a defence which resembles east Berlin after the fall of the wall. The lads barely know each other, and defences work as a unit, and fail as a unit. Having a goalie who is a good shot stopper, but is like a tomcat with three live mice with crosses and long balls must just add to the panic. I still think he could be excellent in a settled unit.
Iā€™d like to buy that koop thingy chap. He looked well suited to the SPL. AZ are a very good side.

A centre half is a must. We might get away with Taylor/Montgomery/Scales until January but a centre half is badly needed now.

I think we needed a winger too and as Sutty said last night, adequate replacements for Christie and Edouard if they go. Adequate means first team starting quality and not some loan deals for EPL misfits.

Agreed, or twenty year old ā€œprospectsā€ on the cheap whoā€™ll be farmed out on loan and are the football equivalent of buying a book of raffle tickets.

Iā€™m worried some lads have been duped by the term Celtic have made contingencies in the event theyā€™re leaving.

Precedent states it will be a Jonjo Kenny, Benkovic, Guidetti type deal where we will phone around a few EPL clubs and see whoā€™s on the shit heap. Even if they do well they will be out of our price range.

If we replace Edouard with Nisbett I wonder will there be lads on here defending the board on it? Precedent says there probably will. If Edouard goes, we need a top striker in - if that takes Ā£7/8/9m then so be it. We have no excuses not be spending that type of money if he goes.

Honestly, you couldnā€™t reliably replace edouardsā€™ talent for 15 million.

The point Iā€™m making if that you could replace it a lot better with Ā£10m than you could with Ā£2.5m.

You could replace it a lot better with Thomas Henry than cheaper options like Nisbet or Giakoumakis.

Edouard came on after around an hour in each leg and I donā€™t think weā€™d have got through without him. He changed the complexion of both matches when he was introduced.

I also think itā€™s imperative we are looking at a new goalkeeper for January too.

We have seen it with Hart so far, a few big saves but thereā€™s so many errors with him too. Bain isnā€™t even a good enough back up so we need a new keeper to arrive in January and hopefully a more reliable one than Hart.

Hart is a great shot stopper, but heā€™s an appalling judge of a cross or long ball. Tommy Walsh would eat him without salt.

And terrible with the ball at his feet and prone to serious lapses of concentration.

He was a panic buy, a good board would not be resting on its laurels here. He is bound to implode at some point before January and we should have a better goalkeeper lined up for then.

He may improve. Iā€™m open minded enough. His saves are a huge step up on anything last season. Iā€™m hoping regular football will improve his judgement, but it looks engrained.

He could and the same goes for Starfelt.

But right now Starfelt is making too many mistakes, heā€™s been thrown straight in, he seems nervous and jittery. We need another defender.

At the minute we have a goalkeeper of questionable reliability who is our best option. The board should be forward planning always, the motivation should always be continuous improvement. Celtic seem happy to rest on their laurels, that culture needs to stop.

I mean thatā€™s just pure nonsense. We arenā€™t going to replace Hart (or Starfelt) immediately and nor should we. Hart has had one dreadful error and a few good saves. He has improved us considerably and we have him for a few seasons.

We need to be realistic about our expectation from defenders too. We expose our centre backs to countless one v one situations. Other than the ridiculous OG (which I understand is a ridiculous thing to say) Starfelt looked good in traditional defending last night. He won a lot of headers and got in a few good blocks. Any defender we buy will make mistakes because weā€™re asking them to intercept passes and cut out the ball aggressively instead of just shadowing in behind so we can keep a higher line.

Itā€™s not possible to play the attacking game we do and be really tight at the back and buying more defenders wonā€™t change that. Not that we shouldnā€™t be looking at one. Iā€™d like another left sided defender but I donā€™t really know what the plan or expectation for Scales is. But anyone we buy will look exposed and will make errors because of the role they are being asked to play.

He had two last night really.

What youā€™re suggesting is nonsense.

Hart and Starfelt made huge errors last night. Iā€™m not on about replacing them, Iā€™m on about signing better players than them in their positions, improving the squad in areas of weakness. Apparently suggesting that is now nonsense?

I really do worry with Starfelt, heā€™s already been at fault for 3 or 4 goals and made a raft of other errors. We badly need another first choice centre half in in the remaining few days.

Sounds like you have your excuses in for the board good and early in any case.

I also thought the OG the type of mistake sown when a central defender isnā€™t sure what his GK is going to do.
That defence needs time and games to bed down. Iā€™d prefer Forster in goals, but Hart is a cobsidt improvement on what we had.

He had one dreadful error. He had one where he wasnā€™t great but he did enough to slow the attack and get us back around. He also made two very good saves and caught and punched some dangerous crosses. Heā€™s being asked to play outside his comfort zone, but thatā€™s probably true of nearly ever keeper who would get played there. You only need to look at the heat maps for the keepers at Angeā€™s previous clubs to see how extreme it is.
