Celtic Transfer Windows 2022 & 2023

What would he fetch money wise? Surely Ā£40 million plus

Would be a big addition to a war chest for Rodgers to get his own players in

This McGowan chap seems to be the most ITK of the Scottish journalists so looks to be genuine. Ā£20mn + mentioned.

Sounds cheap and Celtic should definitely be holding out for more

Apparently 30% goes to Benfica too, the transfer fee would need to be closer to Ā£40m to make it worth Celtics while if that is the case. Canā€™t imagine Jota being pleased though if forced to stay in Glasgow and miss out on the money on offer over there.

Think that seems to be strategy now for these Saudi clubsā€¦commit most of the funds to player salary offer at expense of transfer bid. Puts the playerā€™s current club in a bit of a bind, they could be left with a seriously irked player if they block them from receiving mammoth wages. ā‚¬10mn after tax per year for Jota is nearly ā‚¬200k per week, according to my math. I doubt Jotaā€™s on more than 10% of that at Celtic. I think ā‚¬25mn or something around that ballpark is too light though.

Would that be similar to how it works when one of the Old Firm make an offer for Hamish McJockstrap?

Arenā€™t the transfer fees sort of calculated based on the contract of the player ?

Yesā€¦to a certain extent. Famous recent example was Peter Lawwell trying to lowball Hibs for John McGinn & then Aston Villa came in during the impasse & offered the asking price or even a bit more. So Celtic have needed to be increasingly aware of the financial firepower down in England if they think they can railroad lesser clubs. On the other hand, some of these smaller clubs might not necessarily have tied down the players on very long term deals so they may feel itā€™s in their own interests to do business with Celtic in the absence of interest in the players from elsewhere.

Youā€™d hope Jota would be working the system to see everyone getting a good slice of pie considering the bottomless pit off money available to throw about.

This has been rumoured since late last season. Donā€™t know if itā€™s accumulation of injuries or a general canā€™t be arsed with this anymore. Heā€™s still relatively young. He was excellent for 3-4 months from coming back from World Cup to picking up an injury that he didnā€™t properly get over.

He was close to retiring before Ange came calling, apparently his back is crocked. Went out on a high I suppose after the treble.

Heā€™ll do well on the after dinner speaking circuit I imagine.

30% of profit I think.

Carlos Borges, young Portuguese winger at Manchester City, linked as Jota replacement.

We havenā€™t just lost Postecoglou, Mooy & probably Jota - weā€™ve lost 3 great songs too.

Did this chap think Jota was at Celtic because he loved the club and identified with the fan base or something?

Bless his cotton socks
