Celtic Transfers Summer 2009

Andriy Shevchenko is available from Chelsea, ye should try and get him on a pay as you play deal…

So the Korean lad looks like he has signed and is joining in January.

And this Egyptian lad is in talks apparently:
(Shikabala)

Shikabala? Fucking hell, he’s an outstanding player.

Mowbray’s confirmed Donati’s leaving. He said he’s been impressed with his ability and attitude since he arrived but that they had an earnest chat a number of weeks ago during which Mo Mo admitted that it was his hope to return to Italy so his departure was always expected.

In fact, Mowbray said Donati’s good performances since the start of the season have enabled us to command a fee for him when the club were initially willing to allow him to leave for free given how far he’d fallen down the pecking order under Strachan.

So that money might result in us getting someone in before the deadline passes.

How much did Celtic get for Donati?

Three million pounds apparently.

It’s alright I suppose. I wonder will they use it to get anybody in?

I was under the impression that Ki Sung-Yong was an attacking midfielder and a bit of a dribbler. That video shows that he’s a deep lying midfielder player with a penchant for pinging the ball around. He looks to have a bit of talent. Linked with Dossena of Sampdoria today, a player in a similar mould, and Blasi of Napoli, who’s more of a tough tackling midfield player.

Jason Koumas is also being linked and rumours persist that Mowbray’s happy to let McDonald go if we can get another striker in but I haven’t really seen us linked too strongly with forwards other than Marco Ruben. McDonald’s father arrived in from Australia yesterday according to the ESPN commentators - made me wonder whether he wanted him around to advise him ahead of a move.

Always liked Koumas as a player, I have to say. He’d play more centrally than he has done in recent times I assume.

I like that Blasi lad (what I’ve seen of him which isn’t much). Don’t really know Dessena.

Always liked Koumas too. Lovely style of footballer. Pissed all over Ireland there a couple of years ago.

Sky Sports News are saying that O’Dea and Killen are off on loan to Championship sides tomorrow. Don’t think we’ve enough cover for centre back if O’Dea leaves.

I’ll miss you too, Massimo. I’ll miss you too.

massimo donati returns home to italy

Paul Cuddihy

MASSIMO Donati has moved back to Italy, joining Serie A side Bari. And the midfielder, who returned home for family reasons, says hell miss the Celtic supporters and the atmosphere they generate at games.

I asked Celtic for the chance to return to Italy and I am very grateful for granting me that wish, Donati said. The new manager at Celtic trusted me and respected me but my desire to return to Italy was too strong.

I’ll miss playing in Scotland. The league is more physical and the Italian league is obviously more technical.

But what I will miss most of all is the fantastic supporters and the atmosphere they create at games. We can learn a lot from them in Italy.

Donati joined Celtic in June 2007 from AC Milan and made 54 appearances for the Hoops, scoring four goals. And everyone at Celtic thanks the player for his contribution to the club over the past two years and wishes him every success in Italy.

What’s the story, bhoys?

The transfer window is slamming shut at midnight (CET) on the continent but the English FA have managed to get it extended until 5pm tomorrow because it’s a Bank Holiday over there.

Scotland has piggybacked on England’s extension so that’s why Celtic will have until 5pm tomorrow to get business completed. However, some of the players we’ve been linked with over the last few days have finalised moves elsewhere today.

  • Daniele Dossena signed for Cagliari this afternoon.
  • Eidur Gudjohnsen has agreed a 2-year deal with Monaco.
  • Manuele Blasi has joined Palermo on loan for the season.

I’m starting to think it’s time to hit this:

We’ve probably strengthened the team by sorting out the left back problem and Danny Fox looks like a good player. N’Guemo will add plenty in midfield, while Fortun seems limited but his strength and mobility should aid our overall attacking play at domestic level.

But we lack a bit of depth now having lost Nakamura, Hartley, Donati, Venegoor of Hesselink and a few others like Doumb too. Now, I would have been satisfied enough to part company with the majority of these players but on the proviso that we were going to do more business than 2 permanent signings and a loan player.

In addition, it’s being fairly strongly reported that O’Dea’s going to go on loan somewhere for the season and Killen’s either going on a similar deal or will sign for someone in the Championship. I think we’ll lack centre back cover if O’Dea leaves as we’re reliant on Caldwell, Loovens, McManus (coming back from knee surgery) and the unproven Thompson. I wouldn’t be too bothered about Killen going as he’s not good enough but that would leave us with only 3 strikers in McDonald, Samaras and Fortun.

Our bench yesterday was fairly light, I thought, and letting a couple of more players depart while seemingly adding no more than 1 player before the window slams shut is a bit disappointing.

Borja Valero has joined Real Mallorca on loan for the season.

Celtic don’t look like signing any cunt other than this Bordar Pen-Pinshers lad that was linked with us this evening.

Mowbray didn’t go to Toronto with the squad so at least he’s staying behind to try and sign someone but it doesn’t look like there’s much in the pipeline. We do look very thin at centre back and up front if the two lads leave and we’re already a bit light in central midfield.

I suppose there’s some flexibility in guys like Maloney who could play up front (and Aiden too) but we’re definitely lacking a small bit.

The huns have made their first signing of the window in getting Rothen in on loan from PSG. He’s not a bad player actually.

I actually googled Bordar Pen-Pinshers there! Bit slow this morning.

Thick cunt, I was hoping to get The Puke with that one.

Just In:
Darren O’Dea has signed a new 3-year deal with Celtic but has joined Reading on loan until January to get first team football.

Jerome Rothen was a good player but he’s been riddled with injury in recent times. Hopefully, he’s absolutely fooked.

Pleased O’Dea has signed a contract and that he’s off to get experience. Bit concerned about the lack of cover obviously but I don’t think he’s regular to be a commanding presence for Celtic and that’s what we need back there. Of course the problem is we’re unlikely to replace him with someone suitable but I can imagine he was wrecking heads demanding to go out on loan, he’s been shouting about it for ages. Didn’t think he’d sign a contract though so he must have been given some assurances.

Who’s manager at Reading?

I heard Rothen is a paedophile

Brendan Rogers

He’s an utter cunt, by the account of one person I know who has contacts at Chelsea.

Mowbray must regard Josh Thompson as fourth choice centre back now in Milan Misun’s absence.

think it’s the guy who was at watford, brendan rodgers (sp?)
worked under mourinho as a coach.

as regards options up front, is cillian sheridan still at celtic?

edit: it appears i’m slower on my feet than thedancingbaby
