I go out of my head

Paddy McCourt’s Fenian Army!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT1tMKtYhoY

He played for the reserves against Falkirk yesterday and went by 4 players and scored, as usual, and Niall McGinn got the other two.

Goals in this brief clip: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=qq8il5&s=7

I don’t think McCourt will get the start on Sunday as he’ll probably keep faith the XI that played last week, with the main decision being whether to leave out one of the front four and shore up the midfield with Juarez or someone.

But I reckon McCourt should play. There is a fitness issue with Paddy but it makes sense to start him for a number of reasons:

  • If they ‘park the bus’ then it will be difficult to pass the ball through them so you want somebody who can dribble past players in condensed spaces. Who fits that bill perfectly from our squad of players? Patrick J McCourt.

  • If they decide to be more adventurous than usual on the back of scoring a decent return of goals lately then they will leave space behind their midfield and in front of their back four. Who, out of our current squad, would you want picking up the ball 40 yards out and running at their defence? Patrick J McCourt. Who would be best capable of slipping a slide rule ball into Hooper or Stokes while on the run? Patrick J McCourt.

Whether they’re ultra defensive or decide to have a go, it still makes sense to play McCourt. And he must play from the start. We need to maximise his time on the pitch and he can go off when he’s emptied his tank whether that’s after 60 minutes or whatever. Why limit your best player’s time on the pitch and say, ‘we’ll give him 20 minutes off the bench’. The more minutes he gets, the better chance he’ll have of scoring and/or creating a goal.

Paddy McCourt’s Fenian Army.

Is McCourt really Celtics best player? Genuine question.

I would have thought Maloney.

It is unquestionably McCourt. Maloney wouldn’t be in my top 5.

Rocko, I have been out and about this morning carrying out some banking transactions. I can now confirm that we are flying with City Jet on Sunday at 9am to Glasgow International with Naomh Padraig CSC. It’s a shame that members of TFKCSC will be on separate flights but we can convene in Glasgow. We are returning on a 5pm flight and the after party is scheduled to take place in Anthony Stokes’ pub, The Players Lounge aka Shooters, in Fairview. Music will be provided by Chris, Caroline and Geraldine Carney otherwise known as Clan Carney.

Thank you.

It depends what you mean by best obviously. In terms of talent or performance or effectiveness?

McCourt is unquestionably insanely talented. And he’s been extremely effective for Celtic when available.

Maloney is having a decent season but he’s far from being the top player. I’ve more patience for him than most but he’s an average enough member of the team and wouldn’t have been a first choice pick for much of his career. When he gets into form he can be excellent but you’d like to see that happen more frequently.

at this moment I think we should all take a few moments to thank the great Roddy Collins for saving mccourts career

meet you in Jurys for pre match scoops.

Did you keep your jurys key card from the Hibs game. They may only allow residents in the morning that’s in it.

Airport bar for a few at 6am ish?

I just cant get enough!

I’m sure we’re well capable of organising a pass the card to the lads outside type of scam for Jurys entry DB.

Well done on securing the flights Bandage. I look forward to reading Cityjet’s magnificent Velocity magazine in-flight.

it’d be rude not to

Do Cityjet still give out the free papers and muffins?

Firstly, i don’t know the answer, or really have an opinion as i haven’t seen them consistantly enough this year, but McCourt doesn’t play that much, how could he be the best player?

I should qualify, who is the player of the season so far from the 7-8 games played. Not who’s got the most potential, but who has got had the most influence on the teams performances.

It’s a transitional season and there hasn’t really been anyone who has been oustanding in all the games so far.

Ledley has probably been the most consistent performer. Juarez has done well when selected for the most part but seems to be paying the price for a bad performance away to Utrecht. Hooper has looked good. McCourt has been excellent in the games he has played.

Fair enough. looking forward to seeing the big two teams up there now, at least playing each other the standard should be above playing some of their regular opposition.

It’s genuinely difficult to pick out a best Celtic player so far this season. Nobody is really a stand-out candidate and various players have stepped up at different times.

Also, injuries have been fairly widespread so players have been coming in and out of the team, e.g. Hooper’s scored 5 in his 5 starts after being out for a month and Kayal’s now out long term after looking the part in his early games.

And we’ve been playing competitive football since the first week of August so some of those signed towards the transfer deadline missed a handful of early games, e.g. Stokes, Izaguirre, Majstorovic.

Maloney’s been fairly good out of the near ever presents but does throw in the odd quiet game. I really like Ledley so far but he’s had to cover left back in a few games because of injuries.

Last Sunday was our best team performance of the season so I’m hopeful we can build on that, even though it’ll be the first derby for a whole raft of players.

Only one more sleep to go

It’s getting closer. I can feel it. Mark Lawrenson and John Hartson have tipped the huns to win it.
