Cheltenham 2012

I don’t think Mount Benbulben will win lads. I hope we won’t have a falling out over this.

Farewell bash???

Mac have you nothing in the Triumph…

Ut de Sivola at 14’s or 16’s. Ruby and Willie sounding more positive about him in recent weeks but he’ll need a massive level of improvement.

Jonathan Mullin just tweeted this

Alan Byrne asks DNR how close he can get to Big Buck’s on Carlito Brigante: "Sure I’ll see him going down to the start anyway…

Hopefully Laz will give us a proper run down later or tomorrow but sounds like some serious banter.

More from Mulhollands Preview Night - Barney Curley on Betfred settlement: “We’re bound to silence - but they had to pay for it…”

:pint:

where is all this master of the arts talk coming from? I have to say a Pipe horse in a 2m handicap terrifies me at the best of times, would he even get in?

johnston trains now?

module gone from county, goes to aintree

He’s back with Pipe for the NH season.

Backed Kalahari King in last years Ryan Air, i think he might have won it had he been ridden more agressively early days, he goes very well fresh, but has not run since Nov, which doesnt tally with usual che prep, anybody read anything as to why?

did you hear something?

See the summary below of the Ballymore Eustace Cheltenham preview night and you can join the dots from there!

Major things to take out of it was Gordon Elliot saying that the ‘vibes weren’t good for Peddlers Cross in the Arkle’ :frowning: Presume that came from Jason Maguire.

His best chances of a winner are Mount Benbulben, Shadow Catcher (Will be on the bridle at the last hurdle in the Triumph but doesn’t know what will happen after that) and Toner D’Ouderies(really likes him in the Coral Cup). However, his charity bet was Master Of Arts in the County Hurdle (connection obviously still there with Pipey).

Good local word for Citizenship in the County Hurdle while word from the panel was that Thousand Stars will run in the World Hurdle and put it up to BB.

All agreed on Hurricane Fly & Sizing Europe and there was good banter between Gordon & The Shark. It was the most I’ve ever heard Gordon speak, he’s really come out of his shell

Most interesting thing from Salthill tonight was Patrick Mullins letting slip that Boston Bon is most likely to go for the Albert Bartlett although he did stress that his dad won’t be making any final decisions until the very last minute. I have just availed of some of the 3s on offer for Simonsig for the Neptune on the back of that. Here’s a wee rundown of the main races

Supreme
All agreed wide open. Davy will ride Midnight Game but said STF sets the standard. Most opped for STF butBarney went for Tetlami

Arkle
Barney went for Cue Card says his jockey was his biggest danger. Davy said he’d never seen a horse like Sprinter Sacre and Derek O Connor concurred. Patrick Mullins went for Al Ferof and Paul Kealy went for Cue Card. Local pundit George McDonagh went for Blackstairmountain and everyone just laughed.

Champion Hurdle
Barney said something along the lines that he doesn’t like backing odds on but that Hurricane Fly was as good an odds on bet as you’ll ever get at the Festival. Patrick Mullins rightly said that Binocular wasthe most overrated horse of all time. Davy said HF was vastly superior. The rest all gave Binocular a chance but nothing else

Neptune
All wnet for Simonig here on the back of PMs revelation about Boston Bob. Except for Paul Kealy who said Monksland was his bet of the week. Hector said he had word from Barry Geraghty that Simonsig was the one to be on.

RSA
Barney said he would run Grands Crus in the Gold Cup if he had him and tipped up SDC for this as did Davy naturally enough and Patrick Mullins said he was a huge price and one of the best bets of the week. Davy also said that Bog Warrior was a sure thing next time out, probably at Naas.

QM
All went for Sizing Europe with comments like PK’should be 1/3’, Doc’wins no question’, PM’best value fav’, Davy’Bet of the meeting’ etc etc.

Bumper
Mullins said Champagne fever lacks a change of gear, opted for MM, said Declan Lavery will be the next Paul Townend. Doc and Kealy went for Royal Guardsman. George McDonagh said the way MM got up the hill at Ballybrit suggests he’s tailor made for Cheltenham.

Ryanair
Barney went for Albertas Run. Davy said Noble Prince was a great bet and had a match bet with Kealy that NP would finish in front of both RT and Poquelin. Easy money there for Kealy I’d say. Doc went for Noble Prince as well and Mullins went for Rubi Light

World Hurdle
Mullins said Thousand Stars more likely to run in CH but either way his main aim this year was Aintree where they felt he was very unlucky last year. All agreed BB would win although Barney did refer to him as a bit of a prankster.

Triumph
Davy said not to bother with this, better off staying out for an extra few pints on the Thursday. Most agreed although Doc seemed keen enough on Sadlers risk

Gold Cup
Barney went for Grands Crus, saying he ran his race 5 seconds faster than Long Run tha last day and horses can go a long way in 5 seconds. George Mcdonagh went for Weird Al. Davy went for Burton Port who according to Barry Geraghty has been ‘bombin at home’. Kealy, Mullins and Doc all went for Synchronized for the value although Mullins said he’d backed Quel Esprit and they expected him to improve for the extra 2 furlongs.

Other races
Mullins said Quevega and Scotsirish were 100% and that they expected ScotsIrish to improve for the better ground. He also said the yard would be gutted if Boston Bob lost regardless of where he went.
Davy put a shout out for Toner Dounares for the Coral Cup. Kealy elected Red Inca for the Fred Winter. Barney said Boston Bob would win the AB easily. GM said Cloudy Lane in the Foxhunters and Olofi in the County Hurdle both have big chances.

Charity Bets
Derek O Connor split his between Simonsig in the Neptune and Mount Benbulben in the AB
Patrick Mullins, Boston Bob
Kealy dutched Monksland and Simonsig
Davy Russel, Burton Port e/w
George McDonagh, Great Endeavour e/w Ryanair
Barney, Simonsig

Good night, they kept it tight tonight for the first time ever. Davy great craic as usual, alas Barney is looking frailer with the years

Have just backed Boston Bob at a standout 9/2 for the AB with Hills. Be careful though as they are not going NRNB with this

good horse but get the impression he wont be going.

This time next week, I’ll be having brekkie in Birmingham airport

Somebody stick up the Cheltenhan (Downtown) song from a year or two back to whet the appetite

Will Cheltenham be a the place to be on Thursday night or would I better hitting one of the bigger towns?

Whats all this about Long Run being a doubt for the Gold Cup?

:o
Where you getting this from Mac? This will be a fucking hammer blow to me if true.
