Clare Gaa 🐐 Thread mark II

Any lads on the Ennis team worth a call up to the Clare panel? They look to be a fairly even team?

Oran Cahill was in a couple of years ago straight out of under 20s. Will be approached again I’d say but was in the senior football panel this year.

Moroney, Loftus and Cleary (I think Cleary is underage next year) will all be in contention to start for the 20s.

A few young half backs have been impressive for their clubs this year at senior and premier intermediate. It won’t be easy to win a spot in that line for the county U20 team.

It’s likely a year too soon for the young crop from Eire Og but Loftus was good on Duggan today and took him on in the air.

Did a fine job on Aidan Mc too in the quarters

Would Eire Og winning be popular among regular Clare hurling folk?

I wouldn’t say there is much antipathy towards them. They look their licks a generation ago and came back. Team had grown hugely with the infusion of youngsters over the past couple of seasons.

Gone fairly score for score so far, Clarecastle had a goal chance blocked before the Mills made the breakthrough, but they’re looking more vulnerable at the back

Smith O’Briend take the third tier with a goal at the death to beat Inamona by a point.

The Banner finally won the junior A yesterday

FT
O’Callaghan’s Mills 2-19
Clarecastle 1-16

The Mills looked and played like the more seasoned outfit, were able to find men in space at their ease for the most part. Clarecastle had plenty chances to make a contest of it but the occasion probably got to them a bit.

Banner must be 7 or 8 years now trying to win it.

Since Shane Meehan emerged - would have played his first year of adult in 2020.

Minors have confirmed that O’Halloran is moving up but talk seems to be that he will join the 20s set up.

A good few fringe lads axed from the seniors - Patrick Crotty the most notable - Ian Mc, Conn Smyth, Killian O’Connor, Gearoid Sheedy and one or two others gone.

Oran Cahill, Niall O’Farrell and a raft of the under 20s called in

Small bit surprised that Crotty is gone, although he has been on a bit of a decline form wise since 2022, for both club and county. Definitely has something to offer in the future and its probably for the best that he takes a year to reset and get back to the form he showed as an u20. No real surprise with the rest of them, the younger lads didnt stand out for their clubs and Smyth was always going to go after he went against managements wishes last year and got a serious injury doing so.

Tough on Crotty but he’s still very young. Hard forward line to force your way into at the moment but it will look very different in a year or two.
