Club Championships 2009

Kev, are Sars good value at evens to retain their titles?

No, there wouldn’t be that much of a cross over between the big hurling and football clubs so once the inter-county is out of the way it runs away smooth enough. The only gripe i owuld have is that the 1st Rd was played at the start of May and then the next rd until the middle of July, but from there on it has ran pretty well.

This site will show you all the fixture and results and the time frame they were played over. I think they have the football championship structured really well in fairness to them.

I see there are talks about restructuring the hurling championship in limerick at the moment…always thoughts this losers round etc was a load of bollocks

The only thing that needs restructing is cronies in the county board with their jobs for boys mentality. They are the ones holding things back. If an idea doesn’t come from their clique then you can forget about it ever being implemented. Pat Fitz was the only one to rise above it all.

No, Newtown are cranking it up a bit this year and have improved to somewhere near their form of the past. The Barrs are causing shock after shock as well hurling and football and traditionally when they get in this mood it can go on for 2 or 3 years.

Sars are still favourites, but i wouldn’t be betting on it. They could be tiring, i know their physical coach well and he’s giving them breaks alot to keep them fresh. For such a young team i’m not sure if thats a great sign.

How is Donagh Stack getting on with Newtown

Don’t know to be honest, open to correction, but i doubt he’s on the team. He wasn’t on the last game anyway from what i remember of the paper. I didn’t see the game itself.

he would still be fairly young, think he started for the cork 21’s against Tipp earlier in the year…

Oh i know who he is, former UL and Buttevant player. Was he on U-21’s, i’d be shocked if he was, he should be 23-24 now.
Heard something about him going to Newtown, but did it actually go through?
Again, i’m not uptodate with this story, Turrene may know better.

He couldn’t be 23-24, he hurled in Dean Ryan Final for Flannans in 2005 so the most he would be is 20 maybe 21…Used to hurl for Buttevant but transferred to Newtown this year…

He was in college with a girl i know in Ul, she’s now 23. Now maybe he was young for the class or something, i don’t know. You could be right Puke, i couldn’t swear on any of it.

I wouldn’t second guess The Pukes knowledge of underage Cork hurlers.
He seems to have a bit of a fetish about them.

Speaking of Flannans, I hear from a mate of mine that the buzz is gone out of the Harty in the last few years around there. Only 40 lads showing out for trials and no real excitement the day of the matches. Times have changed

Flannan’s have been struggling big time since they stopped the boarding…

Flannan’s have been struggling big time since they stopped Boarding…Harder to keep lads interested I suppose

Big shock tonight with Fr Casey’s over turning a very poor Drom/Broadford. The result means Caseys top the group and Drom have to go into the quarter finals.

I went to the game expecting a right good tussle, but Caseys out played them all over the pitch. Drom looked a tired team.

Was bound to tell at some stage Runt, they’ve been on the go for nearly two years non-stop and they’re from a relatively small parish population wise. Wouldn’t necessarily rule them out yet but wouldn’t be a shock if they didn’t successfully defend their title.

Fr. Casey’s are no mugs, i’d put them in the top 3 in the county along with Drom and Ballylanders. You’d still expect Drom to be hard bet come the business end of the championship though.

I see Askeaton/Ballysteen avoided the relegation places and will remain in the Senior grade for another year at least…

They were missing Michael Reidy and it really showed. Their forwards were a bit short on ideas, but also Caseys defended like dogs and gave them very little space. At the same time as well Drom came back at them in the last 5 mins and hit the crossbar and should have had a penalty. The final score was 1-8 to 7. (drom scored 3 late points)

Did Jason Stokes play well? He hasn’t really looked fit all year. Is Tommy Stack still playing club for D/B? Fr Casey’s would be tough alright, don’t they have a few lads from Dunph country playing with them?
