First round of the Clare football championship this weekend, I am still waiting for Georgy Comerford or KIB to write up a preview…
Kev, with regards to CIT and UCC, are they legitamate clubs under the name of the colleges or are they made up of college students, if it is the latter then what would be the story with lads who hurl for CIT/UCC and are from a senior club in Cork?

Its the latter, they are like a divisional team, as in they can only pick Intermediate downwards. Only thing is though they can have guys from other counties who play senior.
In hurling they don’t cause much trouble as they are usually fairly full of Corkmen, the football is different. UCK as they were known won the county in '99, they had 11 or 12 Kerry lads on the team and it drove the clubs mad.
Most of the time their preperation is poor due to fellas fucking off and exams, but this year 3 of the teams are through to July, at this stage they’ll have a solid panel, and they can be very dangerous. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if UCC rattled the hurling and CIT the football.
I see Ladbrokes offering odds on the Limerick senior club hurling championship. Good to see one of the main betting firms offering a market on the premier club hurling competition in the country.
If they win it then I would be shocked at the standard of club hurling in Limerick, we played them missing 9 of our senior panel and they struggled to put us away, they were at full strength the same day…
Don’t ever judge challenge games Pukey. Some clubs (my own being one) just can’t do them. Its a mental block with us, we simply have to have something at stake, we more or less don’t bother with them anymore unless things are very bad with the league.
The big one tomorrow for me isnt the Kilkenny/Galway game but the Rionn A Primary schools Cship final at Nowlan Park tomorrow at 12.30pm,its our first appearance in an A schools final in 37 Years and with a brilliant little team we’re hoping for the best.We qualified for the final by beating Gaelsciol Osri in the 1/4 final and beating Brian Cody managed St Patricks,De Le Salle on Monday evening last by 2-12 to 2-04 having been 7 points down at half time,we outscored them by 2-10 to 0-01 in the 2nd half to reach this historic final.Clara are the opposition,a very good side backboned by 3 O Loughlin Gaels hurlers who qualify due to going to primary out in Clara, they are slight favourites despite us beating them by a goal in the COuntry Cup semi final 3 Weeks ago.Id be quietly confident that our little chaps can do the business however, our main men like full back Darragh Joyce, centre back Pat Lyng(Dereks 1st cousin),wing back Tommy Allen, midfielder Richie Leahy and forwards Shane Ryan,Kevin Murphy,David Kelly and Sam Watkins all need to hurl to potential but we reckon they will.Hopefully they can bridge this 37 Year gap,we wont have a schools team like them again for a while, theyre the best ive seen in my lifetime.CMON THE ROWER.
No mean achievement in the brutally competitive Killkenny schools circuit for a small place like that to get to the final.
Best of luck.
