Club Championships 2010

No Dunph, the leg-end in question is slight of stature, and a Tipp supporter to boot.

and they are indeed playing awful stuff.
emigration has ravaged the squad.
tbh, it hasn’t really, just that they’ve no feckin interest and only the same dozen or less lads turning up for training every week
naturally, not all these lads are starters

we’re just using emigration as an excuse.

Are you from Galtee Gaels, t_e?

long gone at this stage Dunph, although I believe my younger self can be seen in a photograph of one of the many victorious underage sides on the website.

deep in the galtee mountains, anyone less than 300 ft above sea level is said to have emigrated.

Many the young Galtee Gaels starlet was dazzled and led astray by the bright lights of Mitchlestown.

Laois Senior Football update for what its worth…

Sparrow Insurances Senior Football Championship
Crettyard V Portlaoise
Town won this by a few to spare, despite being down a hatful who were away at Brian Bruno McCormacks wedding. Cretty are a solid lot, but wouldnt have the firepower to topple someone like Portlaoise

St. Josephs V Stradbally
Big shock here. Joes beaten despite beating Stradbally in the League final only a few weeks ago. Joes were missing Joe Higgins and Tom Kelly who may not be back after the broken neck thing, although he is said to be out running roads of late so who knows. Stradbally are going hard for this, this year, and are driven on by the sad loss of their corner back Kevin Molloy in a farm accident just a few short weeks ago.

Clonaslee St Manmans V Graiguecullen
Graigue kicked the shite of a rubbish Manmans side. Bealin has them moving well and even has Barry Brennan fit, which was a shock to everyone, he even kicked two games in a row.

O Dempseys V Mountmellick
Dempseys kicked the bejesus out of Mountmellick whose young side is decimated by lads gone abroad for the summer, most notably Ger Reddin and John O Loughlin. They’ll need them back to stay up.

The Rock V Ballylinan
Ballylinan won this by a few points. The Rock are an aging side and prime candidates for the relegation battle with their near neighbours Mountmellick.

Arles Killeen V Arles Kilcruise
Draw match in the big one at the weekend. No fireworks though surprisingly enough. Best players on view were the two Donies for Killeen, Kingston and Brennan, and Kevin Meaney for Kilcruise. They do it again tomorrow night.

Ballyroan Abbey V The Heath
The Heath won this easily enough, Ballyroan are another side wrecked with absentees abroad and injuries. MJ Tierney being in Parnells isnt helping either.

Portarlington V Emo
Interesting one this, draw match in the end. Portarlington are a young side built on their minor winning side of last year. Emo would be a tough nut of a club at the best of times, and it seems went out to rattle Portarlington early doors, ie before the throw in. The Portarlington lads stood up to it though and in shocking rain played out a draw Sunday night. Replay Thursday, could be interesting.

Were you at the Arles game?
How did the Limerick representative do?

No I didnt make it Runt, but it looks like he’s gone native from this picture…

Crunch time in the Limerick SFC. The last round of group games will take place on Saturday evening @ 6:45.

Group 1

Ballysteen V Claughan
Monaleen V St Pats
Kierans V Drom

Basically in this group Drom are through on top.

But mathematically every other team could either qualify for the knockout or end up in the relegation play off, but in theory the most likely candidates to qualify are Monaleen and Ballysteen, with St Pats going into the relegation play off. I don’t think it will work out quiet like that though.

Drom will be expected to beat Kierans, but you would be worried about Droms frame of mind given they have nothing to play for and Kierans whole season is on the line. Still this will be Droms last competitive game before the semi, and after an abject display against Claughan last week they will be keen to put things right. Drom.

Ballysteen face bottom side Claughan. A win for Ballysteen will mean they get 2nd spot, a valuable prize as it would put them into the opposite side of the draw as Fr Caseys and Drom. Claughan will be their usual dogged selfs and bar the first game, haven’t been conceding big scores. It should be a good game but expect Ballysteen to prevail.

Monaleen take on Pats in an all city clash. Pats have found form since the break, destroying St Kierans last weekend and only narrowly losing to Drom the week before. Monaleen on the other hand looked poor against Ballysteen and I think Pats might just nick this one.

Important Point - In the event of two teams in the group being level on points, final position will be decided on the result of the head to head between the two teams.
If there are 3 or more teams level on points then score difference will decide the placings.

Took these permutations from the Hoganstand:

Example 1: Monaleen and Ballysteen both win their final round in SFC Group 1 and are together on six points. St Kieran’s lose to Drom-Broadford and remain on four points. As Ballysteen beat Monaleen, they are placed second in the group behind Drom-Broadford while Monaleen are third and Kierans are fourth. St Pats and Claughaun are level on two points but, despite having the better score difference, Pats are placed sixth and in the relegation play-off because they lost the head-to-head betrween the sides.

Example 2: Monaleen, Ballysteen and St Kieran’s all win their final round in SFC Group 1 and are together on six points. Monaleen have the best score difference and finish second, Ballysteen third and Kierans fourth.

Example 3. Drom beat Kierans, Pats beat Monaleen and Claughaun beat Ballysteen. All end up on four points except for Drom who have ten. Second to sixth places are then decided by score difference. Assuming all victories are by a single point. Monaleen come second with +12 and Pats third with +4 both qualify for the quarter-finals. Ballysteen are fourth with -6 and Claughaun are fifth with -18. Kierans end up on -19 and are in the relegation play-off.

Group 2

Adare V Pallasgreen
NCW V Fr Caseys
St Senans V Ballylanders

Not much to be decided here.
The Senans V Bally game is the only one of consequence as Adare are through on top, Fr Caseys have secured 2nd and NCW are in the relegation final.

The winners of Senans V Bally will take 3rd spot and to be honest I wouldn’t like to call it. Should be a very tight game, but if Senans turn up in the right frame of mind they should win.

Cork Championship’s have taken alot more shape and the favourites and teams going well are far more clear.

Senior Hurling;

1/4 Finals are now

Newtown - Erins Own
Bride rovers - Sars
Midleton - The Glen/St. Finbarrs
Douglas/UCC - CIT

Relegation

Blarney - Blackrock

Who’ll win it, probably Newtown, they seem to be motoring and are getting alot out of their younger stars now. Would like to see Midleton win it though. Blackrock should stay up now with so many of their younger players back.

Senior Football;

1/4 Finals are now

Nemo - St. Nicks
Clonakilty - Duhallow
The Barrs - Ballincollig/Castlehaven
Douglas - Carbery Rangers

Far from clear cut this year. Nemo have shown some form, but are not the world beaters they were. They still have the class and a little bit more hunger to make them slight favourites. Clon are champions, Duhallow have great talent available but are divisional and all the others are relavtively young hungry club sides, all with plenty county experience. Douglas beat a star studded Carbery the other night, which was a shock, and could be good outsiders.

Naomh Aban should be relegated.

Premier intermediate is hard to call, but i’ll go for Newcestown for now, they are the most improved team out there.

Premier Intermediate Hurling is hard to call, but i’ll go with Ballymartle.

Intermediate Football looks good for Macroom who seem to be finally realising their potential. The could win it and go straight up and win Premier.

Intermediate hurling should, finally, go to Bandon.

I think this is all a bit too early for a young Midleton side, wouldn’t shock me if they slipped up against CIT, who I expect them to meet in the semi. Barrs and the Glen are mediocre sides but hard to get rid of and won’t fear Midleton either. Bride Rovers are mollockers, Sars looked out of shape against Killeagh. Probably Newtown’ to lose but again I think Erins Own will push them close. Might not be as clear-cut as Newtown/Midleton.

Arles Kilcruise beat Arles Killeen tonight 1-11 to 1-7. Killeen got their goal just at the death, Kilcruise keep their foot on their neighbours throat for a bit longer it seems. Portarlington beat Emo last night after extra time, no shenannigans this time. Billy Sheehan doesnt even stand out at club level.

I see Powers have no betting up for this weekends Limerick SFC B)

Was in Parnell Park to see St Vincents hammer Judes and Oliver Plunketts beat Sylvesters by a point after extra time.

Bernard Brogan scored 1 point from a free. Player of the year my hole !!!

Given the amount of HP sauce in him he did well to get onto the field.

Which Arles team do the Conways play on MBB?

Kilcruise. Chris still turning it on again last night by all accounts. He’s in for the Laois Minor Football managers job at the moment.

Ridiculous to expect Brogan and McConnell (who was brutal apparently) to play any way well four days after an All-Ireland Semi-Final, especially considering it was a non-knockout match.

thats why Celtic were beaten by utrecht as well i suppose

Sabatouer.

Celtic v Utrecht was a knockout match mate.
