Club Championships 2018

Not a decent punch thrown, just the usual hold me back merchants.

Ardboe, Galbally, Trillick and Edendork have advanced to the quarters this weekend.

It’s a case where the big hitters are coming to town next weekend with Errigal, Coalisland, Dromore, Killyclogher, Omagh and Carrickmore all in action.

Ardboe and Trillick are the pick of yesterday’s teams which advanced but both sides are missing key players in Mulgrew and Richie Donnelly for the remainder of the Championship.

How many county players cried off this weekend?

2 were dismissed.

Seems to be real fight in Tyrone over the last two weekends. Where was that fight when they hit the first bit of adversity in the All Ireland Final, when Dublin got the goal from the penalty?

Ardboe, Edendork, Killyclogher and Coalisland are the last 4 in Tyrone.

Semis are Killyclogher v Ardboe and Coalisland v Edendork.

Chance of a repeat of the 216 final between Killyclogher and Coalsland, which was a superb game which went to a replay.

Dublin semis are Vinnie’s v Jude’s and Crokes of Stillorgan v St. Enda’s of Ballyboden.

You’d fancy Coalisland to come through, the other game is a 50/50. As usual the Tyrone Championship is a real meritocracy with loads of very tight games. The quarters were decided by 1 point, 2 points, 2 points and 6 points winning margins respectively.

The intermediate quarters were decided by 1 point, 2 points, 3 points (AET) and 3 points respectively.

That’s the mark of a club scene in a very healthy state.

I’ll be setting aside four hours to concentrate on minute by minute Twitter updates on the semi-finals from @MoysPhillyMc.

I believe the Derry quarter finals were even tighter affairs with 2 games going to a replay, including the game involving the defending Ulster champions. Very similar to Tyrone, except Derry teams generally feature at the business end in Ulster and beyond.
