Club Championships 2026/2027

St Mullins keeper let in a poor one.

It’s a great rivalry for all the reasons you’ve outlined. Neighbouring small rural parishes, lot went to secondary school together in Borris, good sprinkling from both clubs would work together in Keenans of Borris.

It can feel a bit stale as you move through a county championship and invariably end up with the same final pairing, for the 13th time in 21 years. They nearly always deliver though in terms of a gripping and compelling encounter in which each meeting invariably takes on a life of its own.

When you have two dominant teams in a county, that one meeting alone is nearly enough to save a county championship. You had that same dynamic in the likes of Wexford from late 1960’s, all the way through 70’s and 80’s with Buffers Alley v Rathnure, in Laois in the 1980’s with Camross v Portlaoise, Waterford in the 1990’s and 2000’s with Ballygunner v Mount Sion.

A good friend of mine in Waterford travelled up to Carlow with me tonight. Played a bit of inter-county in his day and has been to any number of county finals in Waterford and a few in Kilkenny, Wexford and Tipperary over the years as well. He was saying that he enjoyed that game tonight as much as any county final he was ever at. You had all the ingredients, you’d want in a county final match up, that you may find it hard to get even in the most successful counties on the inter-county stage.

Fuck sake

Great win for Courtwood over St Joseph’s in the first semi final, after extra time. Back into the final again, with what you’d say is a weaker team given a few big long term injuries. Phenomenal achievement

Home from a sparsely attended Parnell Pk.

Dublin 1/4 Finals
Na Fianna v St. Judes
Na Fianna struggled at times with overpassing, going for goal instead of handy points and general apathy at times it looked like.

Sean Currie and Aj stood out. Jack Meagher a good first half.

They will struggle to retain the cup with this level of play.

Cuala next for Na Fianna
Lucan v Crokes

Lucan could sneak it this year.

Kilcoo gone! The suffering is over

We’ll see how Burren or whoever get on in Ulster now.

My rogue shout for the Harriers to overcome the unbeaten Shels didn’t come off anyway. Albeit they were only the frame of the goal away from Lee Chin winning it with the last puck. We wont get a Rathnure v St Martin’s final this year as they’re on a collision course for the semi-finals. Davidstown turned over Crossabeg. Some turnaround for a team who were a puck of a ball away from a relegation final having not won any of their first 4 group games. They’ll fancy their chances against Askamore too. Only a 50% strike rate with 6/12. I’d have been confident of most of them bar the Duffry v Adamstown and Harriers v Shels but a few unpredictable results in the Intermediate A in particular.

I thought Callum Graham was very good for Judes. Took his goals really well. Should be an addition to Dublin next year. I’d agree na fianna will need to improve to win it out

I see Andy Moran came out of retirement for Ballaghaderreen in their relegation final aswell

Having beaten Tullamore in the group, Rhode failed to fire at all today against the same opponents today. Ferbane beat Shamrocks relatively comfortably in the other semi-final.

Final should be good. Tullamore will be favourites to get their 4th in a row but I reckon Ferbane will put it right up to them.

Two years ago I left that county final disgusted with what football had become. Today Burren beat Kilcoo 4:16 - 1:20 in a cracker and Liam Kerr was a class act able to show all his footballing talent. Down are going to suffer for a few years yet because they have lost a generation of talent both on the field and coaching, but the future is bright.
Clonduff v Burren in the final will be a great occasion.

The famine goes on for Ballycastle in Antrim. Cushendall 2.23 Ballycastle 4.13. Ballycastle got an early goal but Cushendall pulled away to a 1.12 to 1.6 ht lead. The Cushendall goal was dreadful from Ballycastle. It was a Cushendall free about 40m out. A player ran past the free taker who pulled the ball on the ground to him. He had a 1.2 with the free taker, waltzed through and goal. Really slack from Ballycastle. Cushendall extended the lead to 9 in 2nd half and thought it was over. But from nowhere Ballycastle got in for 3 goals and it was level. But Cushendall responded with a goal and held out by bringing McManus back as a sweeper to snuff any more long balls in.

Did McManus do a good job of reffing the match?

A pendulum swing in @Halfpipe favour in the great Down v Tyrone SFC debate I see. Kilcoo knocked out by Burren over the weekend.

Of course
