How do Cork run their championships off so quickly relative to the rest of the country? Their hurlers and footballers were in the All Ireland semi finals this year, yet both championships are finished.
And I read somewhere that Cussen played in the hurling final for Sars.

It might look good from the outside, but believe me the Cork County championships are a joke. Many teams play the first (2nd Round is a losers round) and third rounds in April, May and June. Then due to county teams you may not play again until september. Courcey Rovers are in the Premier Intermediate Final, but by the time its played they won’t have played a game in over two months!!!
The thing about it is that its affecting the county teams now. The fringe and young players who might make county panel’s are not getting regular games. Many are subs on the county panel and aren’t released for club league game and don’t play any club games hardly at all outside of championship. Some of these players play very little games at all as they can’t make the county team. There is this mad rush with games now, and dual clubs are suffering big time. Valley Rovers(Kevin Canty, Fiacra Lynch), Eire Og(Daniel Goulding, Ciaran Sheehan) and Ballygarvan(Ger Spillane, Stephan White) are some of the clubs involved, hardly have a game all summer and now they are out 7-8 weeks in a row. Last year Ballygarvan played 4 championship games in 8 days. Now thats one of the reasons Cork gets its games played.
I know for sure that the club players are very close to some sort of rebellion soon, they are being treated disgracefully.
I get the feeling that Cussen is going to be our full foward for Cork hurlers and footballers next year. I would’ve have fancied Fraggie Murphy at full this year, but he isn’t exactly a target man and I can’t think of anyone else besides those two. Pa Horgan maybe, although he is just like Fraggie.
Either way, with Cadogan around as well, the county board might be forced to change its one code only policy.
I see mention of the O’Dwyers in the Clare football championship and Pukey was talking about one of them playing in Kildare. I think you might be referring to Peter (?) O’Dwyer who was on the Wexford panel the year before last under Paul Bealin. He was unbelievably bad in the games he played and I forgot he existed until the mention of him there.
Eoin is a special player IMO. He is turning into an ox of a man, and boy can he play. I believe his future lies with the footballers. He is gifted at both.
Douglas are Senior in Football having got to final this year, after just surviving relegation last year. They did get relegated in hurling, and are now in Intermediate hurling semi final.
Laois Football Board may launch an investigation into how an Arles-Killeen player had his jaw broken in a relegation playoff against St Manman’s on Sunday.
Derek Hayden had tests in a Dublin hospital after sustaining the injury as Arles-Killeen kept their senior status for another year. He is due back into St James’s Hospital tomorrow to have corrective surgery.
The match threatened to boil over on a couple of occasions but didn’t. However, Hayden’s injury has angered officials of the club, despite their one-point victory.
Wouldnt read too much into it, saw the game, saw the incident, full blooded tackle that went a little high and a little dangerous, but have seen far worse at U12 games. Sir Tonys rag loves to big up these things in the close season.

1/4 finals by all accounts were very poor fare…Plunketts saw off marys by 2 points…marys gettin a late goal…A. Brogan was sent off for drawing a kick on some lad after receiving a few digs …ballymun got a last minute goal to beat Boden by 2 points…Ian Roberstson and Collie Moran have suspected broken cheekbone and broken nose respectively after a collision…Vincents bet Thomas Davis by couple of points but lost Dermot Connolly who received a straight red for something he said to the ref …he now could miss wednesday’s hurling replay against Ballyboden and the football semi final against Crokes on monday night who beat UCD in an dreadful game…
In the big ball, its a mess, and there are 2 rounds of playoff yet to go before the q-finalists are determined, and this involves two of the remaining 4 teams in the Intermediate hurling, and 2 of the senior huling q-finalists still in the senior football. Footballers will not get to play in the munster championship this year. The main reason is that scoring difference was not in place in the group stages this year and it resulted in a number of playoff to determine relegation candidates and q-finalists. Coupled with the high number of dual clubs its a disaster.
has the standard of club hurling in waterford dropped off a bit from what it was 5/6/7 years ago hangblaa…saw ballyduff upper against tulla last year and i wasn’t too impressed…
Kingpins and overwhelming favourites Portlaoise (big name, take your pick, Colm Parkinson, Zach Tuohy, Peter McNulty) take on up and coming and 06 IFC Champs Mountmellick (big name John O Loughlin) in first game.
Other semi sees up and coming O Dempseys (big name Peter O Leary) take on surprise packets Timahoe (big name Brendan Quigley/Pauric Clancy, some midfield).
I fancy the Town and Timahoe final with nobody to come close to The Town who have bigger fish to fry.[/quote]
I got this one spot on. A Cahir Healy and Tommy and Barry Fitzgerald inspired Portlaoise took Mountmellick to school last weekend winning far easier than the 7 point scoreline would suggest. In the other semi final a Pauric Clancy and Brendan Quigley powered Timahoe fell over the line with 1 point to spare.
DLS and Abbeyside should get through with a bit to spare. Ballygunner should beat Tallow, who are not going great, but are capable of a performance, but B’gunner should have too much firepower. Ballydufff Upr havent been going at all well all year and Lismore whoul account for them in close game. Its not coincidence that DLS, B’gunner and Abbeyside are liekly to be semifinalists as they have been the top 3 underage clubs for the last 10 years…
Any of you Dubs know for sure if that Boden v Vins replay is on tonight or tomorrow night? On Hill16 it’s down as tonight but I see on the paddy power site it’s down as tomorrow.
