Cork city football club- fuck off & die

23/02/2010 - 09:49:05
The consortium which failed in its bid to take over Cork City FC after the FAI last night refused to grant the club a Premier Division licence today said it was “angry and frustrated” by what had happened.

In a statement, the group consisting of Peter Gray, Michael O’Connell and supporters’ group FORAS (Friends of the Rebel Army Society), said: ”We would like to express our deep frustration and anger resulting from our failed attempt to rescue Cork City FC from being wound up in the high court today.”

“This is a real tragedy that could have so easily been avoided,” the statement said.

The group said it had been attempting for several weeks to acquire the club from current owner Tom Coughlan, and in the course of negotiations it had uncovered liabilities in excess of €1.2m, “well above the €600,000 that was initially stated by the club’s owners”.

“We are angry that the lack of engagement from the current owners made it impossible to conclude a deal in time for the outstanding revenue and licencing issues to be dealt with in an efficient, professional manner.

“While Tom Coughlan eventually signed a deal yesterday afternoon, as late as 6pm yesterday evening, our group was refused access to vital club documents as we tried to get our Premier League application in order.

“As a result of this brinkmanship, this morning players and staff are unemployed and creditors, including the Revenue Commissioners, face the prospect of not having their debts settled as the club has no assets to speak of.”

The club now faces the enforcement of a winding up order at 2pm today, the final deadline set by the High Court yesterday for City to pay a €160,000 debt to the Revenue Commissioners for outstanding VAT, PAYE and PRSI bills.

The FAI last night said the licence application “fell seriously short of the criteria required to fulfil a Premier Division Licence in a number of areas”.

The group said it would now offer its support to the FORAS-backed club in the first division and would to encourage the people of Cork to do likewise.

Crazy shit, debts of over ÂŁ1.2m and not an assest to their name.

Munster Football Assoc

For me its always been Caw’lin

What kind of clowns are running these clubs? Fucking hell.

how much of his own money did Coughlan plough into them?
im wondering how 600k became 1200k thats all.

Kev i would imagine would seriously fuck you up,after all you are from a greasy, cowardly background no?

I pronounce it as the former, people down here seem to prefer the latter.

Coughlan basically let it go, this was the easier and chaeper option for him. In a case like this there should be civil or some sort of community law against it. I think he should be brought up to owe a certain % or something, and go to jail if he won’t pay. You can’t have cunts like this coming in, treating a club like a toy, fucking it up for everyone and they riding off into the sunset.

What happens the 120k owed to the Revenue?

If he can get away with it I might as well set up a football club myself, run it to the ground and then ride off into the sunset.

Thats exactly it. Now the only thing is, Coughlan can’t be a director of anything for at least 5 years. But when its a community based thing like this i think the punishment should be worse.

waht are his other interests, his background?

But sure stopping him from being a director of anything is of no importance. He could piss off the to the US or the UK and no-one would know any different about him. What a great country we live in. Maybe himself and Seanie Fitz could buy out some lower league club to keep them occupied for a few years.

Have a guess - Construction.

I’m convinced he was a puppet for Owen O’ Callaghan.

why bother though Kev?
since they don’t own turners cross, o’callaghan would have little to gain from it.

Owen was the bhoyo behind the Wimbledon move to Liffey Valley back when.
He was very good friends with Eamon Dumpty, who acted as a consultant on that project.

Ye should note that that stadium actually had full planning permisson, the only thing that stopped its development was SDCCs demand for the developers to build a railway station on top of the usual big top contributions and road building conditions.

I doubt Tom Coughlan has much to do with Double O C to be honest, he’s certinly not at the top table there anyway; and O’Callaghan is definately not one to behave like that with PRSI & VAT.

i understand your point kev but surely caw-lan had signifigant losses as well here,
he definitly did not make any money from his time in ccfc, granted the club is wound up but surely some of his money went with it.

the whole LOI is one sorry mess to be honest, only a class A retard would invest in a professional football club in this country with the hope of making money.

are guys like caw-lan, ollie byrne, louis kilcloyne monsters who genuinely set out to destroy community football clubs or just deluded fools who had ambition and thought they could actually make a go of it.?

caw-lan is now fucked, ollie is dead, the only guy who succeeded in doing anything benifitial was kilcoyne when he sold glenmalure park for a few bob to build a few houses

Ollie Byrne - Legend.

Greg O’Halloran speaking well on Off the Ball at the moment. 40 people lost their job today while the FAI are worrying about a friendly in England against Brazil.

Who used to run the league before the FAI took over? Would a return to that do the league any good?

The Colonel, of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. Yes, yes it would.
