Larry talk’s a lot of sense.I have a feeling that Cork will cause a few surprises in the football this year.

do you think Sean Og or Gah will make a comeback?

Cork have rested the dual players for the Kildare game and Shirlds is out. Very experimental with Goold at No. 6, something that’s good to see. Colm O Neill back in squad, great news.

Would like to know the odds on Kildare, I make them favorites here. Cork missing 3 All Stars and a lot of physicality, Kildare played well last week and won in Cork last year, no fear. Midfield very weak/inexperienced. 2 debuts and 2 2nd game players. It’s a stick out.

Reported the dual players just training with hurlers this week and next. Good to see the sense being used.

The Cork team will line out as follows:

  1. Ken O’Halloran (Bishopstown)
  2. John McLoughlin (Kanturk)
  3. Tom Clancy (Clonakilty)
  4. Conor Dorman (Bishopstown)
  5. Brian O’Driscoll (Tadhg MacCárthaigh)
  6. Fintan Goold (Macroom)
  7. James Loughrey (Mallow)
  8. Andrew O’Sullivan (Castletownbere)
  9. Ruairi Deane (Bantry Blues)
  10. Mark Collins (Castlehaven)
  11. Donncha O’Connor (Ballydesmond)
  12. John O’Rourke (Carbery Rangers)
  13. Daniel Goulding (Éire Óg)
  14. Brian Hurley (Castlehaven)
  15. Donal Og Hodnett (O’Donovan Rossa)

Subs
16. David Hanrahan (Douglas)
17. Noel Galvin (Ballincollig)
18. Alan Cronin (Nemo Rangers)
19. Kevin O’Driscoll (Tadhg MacCárthaigh)
20. Micheál O Laoire (Naomh Abán)

Not that unheard of. And the fact that it’s his 3rd time he has probably become an expert at the rehab. There is a chance (considering subsequent problems he’s had), he didn’t rehab well the first time. Probably not going to play much anyway.

The Cork Senior hurling team for the opening game of the Allianz Leagues v Limerick on Saturday night at 7pm in Páirc uí Rinn will line out as follows:

  1. Anthony Nash (Kanturk)
  2. Shane O’Neill (Bishopstown)

  4. Kilian Murphy (Erin’s Own)
  5. Stephen White (Ballygarvan)

Jimmy Barry-Murphy and his selectors have named an experienced team for Saturday night’s clash, with ten of the starting fifteen having also started the All-Ireland Final Replay last year. There’s a senior hurling début for dual player Aidan Walsh, while Mark Ellis, Rob O’Shea, Kilian Murphy and Stephen White also get starting positions, the latter pair having come on as subs in the All-Ireland Final replay.

Conor O’Sullivan, Seamus Harnedy and captain Patrick Cronin remain on the injury list.

Hopefully Killian Murphy and Mark Ellis will lay down markers.Stephen White get’s a bit of stick at times but the management obviously have faith in him and perhaps he can put himself forward as a viable half back option.Im happy enough with Christopher Joyce at number 6 and he should be left there and allowed to grow into the position.I would have liked to have seen Lorchan McLoughlin in the half back line but himself and Daniel Kearney have a good partnership going at midfield. It will be interesting to see how Rob O’Shea get’s on in the half forward line.He would be more of a midfielder but he’ll probaby see some action there at some stage. It’s going to be very exciting seeing Aidan Walsh in action.I would imagine he will rotate between full forward and the half forward line.I would imagine the plan for the year will be plenty of rotation in the forwards to unsettle defences.I’ll deal with the bench in a minute.A settled full back and a functioning half back line needs to be found during this league campaign but we are bursting with quality up front right now.

As for the bench i would hope to see Colm Spillane get some game time and perhaps Eoin Keane should be given a run at full back.We have Cads on standby as well and hopefully being demoted to the bench might spark something in William Egan.William came into the team towards the end of the 2010 championship. He scored a point in the munster final replay that year.He needs to establish himself this year because he is a senior player on the panel now.I would hope that a place on the bench might have a similar effect on Luke O’Farrell. We have promising young hurlers on the bench in the form of Paul Haughney, Brian Lawton, young Mickey Cahalane, Alan Cadogan, and Michael O’Sullivan.Seamie Harnedy, Pa Cronin Conor O’Sullivan, Brian Murphy and Paudie O’Sullivan are unavailable.I think it’s obvious that there’s a lot of quality young hurlers on the panel now and hopefully we’ll get the year off to a flying start this Saturday.Rebels Abu.

Cork: Homosexual capital of Ireland.

Do you swing both ways yourself?

John Gardiner talking about Cork having no tactical plan. Interesting.

Certainly didn’t seem to have a plan to use extra man. Do teams have tactical plans in first League game or is it about finding players. Cork do need to develop that side of things after Clare outfoxed them last year.

We got off to such a good start.Lehane and Hoggie were causing a lot of damage and you would have expected us to drive on from there especially when Limerick went down to 14 men.We should have driven on and buried them from that point onwards but we eased off our intensity and allowed Limerick back into the game.Unlike the championship games last year we made poor use of the extra man.We really should have put Limerick away in the first half considering the wides and the two goal chances we missed. We were very sloppy at times and we gave away some soft frees.Limerick did look like the better side in the second half and they showed a lot more hunger with regards to snapping up breaking ball.We badly missed Pa Cronin and Seamie tonight.A draw was probably a fair result in the end but i felt Cork should have secured the win in the first half but we were outfought by Limerick after half time.I also thought they were better than us tactically on the night as well.We just hit aimless high ball after aimless high ball down on top of the forwards. Then again the lad’s were just recently back from holidays and at the end of the day the league is for playing and the championship is for winning.Antrim and Laois are 4 points in the bag already and we should beat Offaly and Wexford.Promotion is up in the air a bit now but the main thing is to be ready from the league quarter final onwards heading towards the championship.

Aidan Walsh didn’t have the game we hoped he would have but even if he played a stormer tonight that wouldn’t mean that he is the new Christy Ring and Brian Corcoran in one package. It’s quite clear that it will take time for Aidan to get up to speed with things.William Egan put in a good shift in the half back line.Rob O’Shea did well in the first half and Alan Cadogan made quite an impression coming off the bench and scoring two points.Paul Haughney came on and scored a nice point.Hoggie and Lehane showed in the first half that with the right ball played into them then they will do all the damage. It’s disappointing that we didn’t claim the two points but we will get better from here on in.All Irelands were never won or lost in February. All in all i think poor tactics, poor use of the spare man and some poor individual performances allowed Limerick back into the game.

Limerick are a very decent side. Don’t forget that. I’d be happy enough if Galway did the same.
