Michael Shields moves back to the full back line, while Noel Galvin is also out through injury. In a new-look half back line, Damien Cahalane gets a first football start of the season, having featured for the Cork hurlers against Tipperary last Sunday, and Patrick Kelly takes up the centre back position, with Tomás Clancy on the bench. Paul Kerrigan is replaced in the half forward line by Colm O’Driscoll, while Barry O’Driscoll comes in at corner forward ahead of Daniel Goulding.
Aidan Walsh, Eoin Cadogan, Donal Óg Hodnett, Ruairi Deane and Noel Galvin were not considered due to injury. Ruairi will revisit his surgeon on April 7th for an update on his injury, and Seán Dineen (Castlehaven) has joined the panel in his place.
Interesting selection. Great time to experiment against quality opposition with nothing to lose.
He seems to be rewarding performances.

Revolutionary idea. You’ll go a long with way in sports management with this sort of insight.

Fuck knows what Killian Murphy has done to deserve to be dropped.
Thought Colm Spillane (and Patrick O’Mahony) were going to make it a couple of years back, unfortunately looks like they haven’t improved much since Minor and both lack a touch of pace.

JBM wielding the axe. Panel probably needed to be freshened up. What are the new lads like?
Killian Burke apparently played well this weekend. Saw him at Minor and thought he was a bit slow, but he is quite physical. Bill Cooper looked good a couple of years back when he played under Denis Walsh, but his injury set him back big time. Was very hard-working and athletic, but limited - not really the type of hurler JBM would rate, but I guess they are desperate for a half-forward. Cormac Murphy I haven’t properly seen since Minor either, when he looked okish but didn’t really stand out on a very poor Cork team. Had a lot of injuries as well. Usually plays half-forward or midfield.
Not really sure the panel needs to be freshened up, there has been a lot of chopping and changing recently anyway. Reality is we don’t have 25-30 inter-county standard hurlers in the county, regardless of how much they change the squad. Killian Burke adds physicality to our inside backs which tbf we need, but otherwise…ehh.
Funnily enough, one of the inter-county standard subs we do have, has been dropped - Killian Murphy.
Is there really somebody called Donal Og Hodnett ?

Only three of Cork’s starting fifteen were involved in the extra time defeat to Waterford in last year’s Munster Championship: Shane O’Brien, Alan O’Callaghan and captain Patrick Collins, who is in his third year as a Cork Minor. All of the starting fifteen are in their final year at the minor grade. Cian Walsh, Seán Bourke, Eddie Gunning, Dayne Lee, Mark Dolan, Daniel Meaney, Seán Hayes and Eoghan Keniry were part of the 2013 U17 Rebel Óg Academy squad that won the Mallow Inter-County tournament. Luke Meade, Tomás O’Connor, Darren Browne and Seán O’Donoghue were also involved in that squad but were club-tied for the tournament.

go easy on us in the hurling Turenne!
unusual to have a team of completely second year minors
That’s a very impressive performance in Kerry. Plenty fringe players showed well. Kerry are in big trouble at the back. Griffen isn’t near top IC standard. Fairly demoralizing for them
The Castlehaven contingent are very impressive, Cahalane was superb. Kelly looked good at centre back although he had an easy ride.
The refereeing was dreadful again, woeful inconsistency.

Do you mean final year Minors? IIRC only 5 of those played last year.
Its unusual but I’m not sure why Dunne and O’Halloran aren’t starting, both are U-17 and very highly rated. Maybe injured.
Heard one of the young lads on the fringes of the Cork Hurling panel has a career ending injury.
Sounds serious. What is his career?
In the context of both my post and this thread, playing GAA for Cork. Would have though that was obvious, but I guess there is no such thing as a stupid question and all of that.
