Cork GAA 2016

Blaming the forwards but the system was what let them down. Nash launching the ball as high and long as he can when there is a spare man in defence  Egan sitting way too deep Harnedy coming out the field

Cork tried to copy Waterford game but don’t have the players to do it so the game broke down. Also conditions not conducive to it.

He must have been told that though. He was more concerned with standing in front of the goals than getting in the space to cut off balls to the full forward line or joining defenders to double tackle a forward.

This is Waterfords third year of trying to play like Waterford and we are not there yet. These things take a lot of time and you’d be unlikely to get it perfect in the few weeks between league and championship.

Yerra

True which begs question why not try it in league but still think Cork don’t have players to play that way. Cork have four forwards who can score if they get ball. Game plan should be based on getting them on ball as much as possible and defenders going touch tight on forwards and not stand off and dangle a hurley.

Corks big problem is that they can’t and won’t defend anywhere on the field.

Yeah that is it. Need a couple of Brian Murphy’s in there.

Nail on the head there. The players selected as defenders are not defensive in their approach and the show boaters up front don’t understand that they are the first line of defence when they lose the ball

Their Conditioning is a disgrace.

I hate to say i told ye so, but i told ye so. Never ever has a Physio been able to get a team up to pace and robustness for whats needed in all my experience.

A pity cos its a good guy ruining hard earned reputation as a PHYSIO.

“Every effort was made to have the team right on the day, but for an inexplicable reason that didn’t happen. People shouldn’t be overly critical, encouragement is needed rather than criticism.

  • Ger Lane.

And this clown is supposed to be one of the better Frankeen stooges.

Rumour is that Daniel Kearney has walked.

I heard he didn’t come back on bus. Pissed off at being subbed 4 minutes before half time when whole team was misfiring

One or two others not happy either. The lads dropped off squad were popular / morale not great.

I thought it was harsh myself, particularly when Cooper was having an absolute mare

Still its looking for excuses. They have to fucking look at themselves. They were ready made excuses.
The mindset is awful.

John Myler was the man for this job, 2 years of Myler and then hand it over to a more polished Coach/Manager

Whatever about the coaches, Cork don’t have the players either. They are just not good enough atm, I don’t know how they managed to beat Clare last year; says an awful lot about where Clare were at last year with the talent that they clearly have.

Obviously there was a failing in the coaching too, JBM overachieved in general with Cork, but no intercounty team should be as loose and unwilling to defend as they were against Galway last year, for example. There must be 6 backs in Cork who could be coached in a system that can not just be walked through. And similarly Kingston introducing a sweeper system that they have no idea how to play. It’s reactionary stuff and I don’t know how much thought went into it beyond let’s copy what other teams are doing.

But, in general, Tipp have better players all over the pitch. In a loose game, Tipp were always going to win, they just have better forwards and they have better backs. Tipp like a fight less, but I’m not sure Cork have those type of players either. And in a fight, you still have to have the scoretakers to win a match and Cork are carrying a few fancy dans up front, I think. If they had a few more Harnedys, Cork would be a real threat.

However, they’ve been doing well at underage levels in the last couple of years, at long last. Supposedly the best minor team in Munster this year and winning at levels below that.

Kearney still involved, according to his own twitter.
