Cork GAA 2016

No. Never played them. Beat Middleton and Erins Own in the glory days. Lost to the Barrs and Rockies in the 70s.

I remember Newtown playing as a junior team in festival tournaments in Kilmallock in the 70s. They used to bring a good crowd. They came a long way.

No decent hurling clubs in Cork anymore mate.

Cork hurling was fucked when country teams started dominating.

Correct. City teams are where it’s at.

We consider ourselves a large urban area

It was fine when East Cork were kings, it seems to be those fucking nordies that have us fucked.

didnt see it. my opinion on him is as much based on the alternatives as his own level. what do you think yourself

No real purpose to him being on the pitch.

Summary:

Burke doubtful. Conor Sul likely replacement. Kearney might also start, otherwise same 15.

Pa O’Callaghan not going to join the seniors as of right now.

Powter and Kelleher likely to start for footballers.

Confident?

Yes, by 4 in the hurling and 6 in the football.

We are playing shite. No offence, we’re not much better ourselves.
A Wexford surprise is not out of the question as they are crazy cunts and we are very mentally soft.

I honestly believe Saturdays 2 games for Cork teams would resemble, maybe, the standard of our best club teams of the past. The great Nemo team of late 80’s and early 00’s version would arguably be better than this present Cork team. Not maybe in abilty or potential but in terms of delivery of performance and nous Nemo would be better.

Hurling the same. The reason the thought entered my head was after a discussion with a former Midleton player who isn’t the “in our day” type. He was completely convinced there is no way whatsoever Killian Burke would make tge Midleton team of '91, not to mind a Cork squad. So it made me with the bit of spare time i had this week take a look at it.
I choose Nemo '88, 93 teams, Barrs '85 team, Castlehavens 89 team, Bantrys 95 team and Skibbs 92 team for comparision.
In Hurling i choose Blackrock '78 team, Midleton '83 & '91 teams, 'Barrs '84 team and Na Piarsaigh '90 team.

When i find all teams i’ll do a comparision.

Looking forward to this, I’d remember all those teams from Midleton 83 on, that team was so good that in 85 a Blackrock team with Jim and Tom Cash, Der McCurtain, Frank Cummins and Mick Kilcoyne (Fantastic Westmeath hurler) from 5 to 9 were given absolutely no hope of winning, of Course the Rockies won anyway.

Ridiculous teams back then. The outsiders who came in were always beasts. Mark Mullins for Piarsaigh, Cummins and Mick Kilcoyne for Rockies and Myler for the Barrs. I think they had to be special to get thru being an outsider.

A quick look a while ago and i found a football Barrs team with 10 county senior player(from both codes) and the other 5 all had played Minor or 21 for Cork. I guessed at 20 All Stars.
They fucking lost :joy::joy::joy:

On him. Proper hard. I mean proper hard. Mentally, physically and a lovely kind man. Would have made it in virtually any sport.

One of the great people of GAA, not to mention one of the great hurlers.

That was a super Midleton team. Saw them win the Munster Club final in Kilmallock in 83. Kevin Cashman said it was the greatest game of all time. Was some breakthrough from them in Cork when you consider what the city teams were doing in the Munster Club in the previous decade.

Blackrock 5 wins 1971, 1973, 1975, 1978, 1979
St. Finbarr’s 4 wins 1965, 1974, 1977, 1980
Glen Rovers 3 wins 1964, 1972, 1976
