Total domination.

Fuck me those days seem the 30-40 years away that they are now…on the other side.

Here’s a treat for the real hurling nerds so.
I grew up on that stuff,

Any GAA video that has the Radetzky March as the intro music has me impressed already. Must take a look at this over the weekend. Thanks.

What year was that? 85/86?

The old boys at home revered borris. They cried when we beat them a few years ago in championship. A noble club.

A family member worked with Demot McCurtain’s sister for the best part of a decade. She said he swapped jerseys with every county he faced - except Tipp. He hated Tipp and still does. Got it from his father, whom I met on a few occasions. Lovely man. But if Tipp were playing he’d be spitting all kinds of vitriol. It was an unnatural kind of hatred really.

Walsh is undroppable apparently.

What options do ye have at half back though. Surely he’s worth a spot for his phisicality, agreed he’s not a good midfielder. Could hurl a lot of ball from half back.

Midfield is probably the worst place they could play him IMO. He is still inexperienced hurler at that level and putting him into some kind of “defined” role makes much more sense rather than asking him to float around and read the game.

It’s unusual to see a fella disimprove the more hurling he plays though. Does appear to be undropable though as Turenne says

I was at that game and the replay. On the “covered stand” side. Fenton had to be twice as good as the city guys to get a start for Cork around that time such was the grip the city clubs had. Borris and Midleton went on to win all Ireland’s a few years later. Great times.

There are three on the bench, and Cahalane, who is better at half-back than inside. McDonnell plays there for his club as well iirc. Point being they are determined to put Walsh in somewhere, whether half-back, midfield or half-forward for god only knows what reason. He turns slower than a ship and is a liability at midfield and half-back. His use of the ball is rubbish as well.

Midleton had a fantastic centre back around then called Seanie O’Brien who never got a sniff of a Cork jersey, others on their team would have walked onto every county team bar Cork at that time as well.
I heard that Fenton developed a lot as a hurler when he got a bit older, was cuter and developed that quarterback thing that made him a legend in the mid 80s, you’d see him take a step back to survey in front of him, Not good enough to start on the three in a row teams.

I used to live in Gillabey Street

Seanie was a very good hurler alright but probably lacked the speed for intercounty. Cork had tremendous half backs that time. Philly Ryan and Johnny Callaghan (Ballyhea) were other top class half backs who saw little action for Cork.

At least that Murphy joker got hooked. Walsh isn’t a midfielder, wing back may suit him. They’ve taken their sweet time figuring that one out.

Midelton must have kept a fair chunk of that team in the early 90’s. Vaguely remember Cashel v Midelton in Mitchelstown in Munster Final of 1991.

All the stars were still there in 91, the only real hurler of note added between those two wins was possibly David Quirke, Pat Hartnett and John Fenton were nowhere near their best in 91 though.

Did you attend. I can remember the banks in Mitchelstown being thronged such was the crowd.

Both sides had a nice chunk of IC players at the time.

Nah, I hate the Magpies as much as @KinvarasPassion
