Uh oh @fran, @Midshipman_Asha, etc, he knows too much. Execute the contingency plan.
Brian Cody (blessed be his name) is the man that Fionn McCool would like to have been!
Who the fuck is Fionn McCool?
He lives next door to Alice
Course he wouldnât. I meant âcoachingâ in broader sense incl man management etc. They are all well drilled no doubt but he gets the max out o them on the big day year in year out
100%. He is in the washing machine. Needs to get out.
Shock but not a shock kinda one.
Considering they are foced to drive the day of games everywhere its a great bet i would say.
Killkenny have the All Blacks blue print. As CM alluded to they skill everyone in the basics from top to bottom. Have a good coaching culture and have high standards at county level.
Like NZ the mentally strongest and most robust get theu that system. I would suggest the culture is so strong now that Cody has even less to do.
I daresay Cody plans the year like a funnel for the team, getting simplier and simplier as the year goes on. Then he does the opposite himself, getting more involved and vocal as august arrives.
I was part of an ultimately successful team last year and that was the Managers approach. He hardly took a drill till 1/4 Finals. It saves the voice and keeps you somewhat elusive.
While he may have had to work hard on individuals from say 99 to 2006/7 era, iâd say thats tailed off and they come really âreadyâ now. At least mentally.
I would think Codys workload is little enough now. But he and a handful of others like Ned Power and Dempsey have ensured it will hang around for a long time.
I think Cody is key much like Ferguson was to United. When he goes it will be informative as to how important he was and see if successor comes close to achieving the dominance he presided over
Nothing in it about enjoyment and a bit of fun I suppose?
Do you want fun or do you want medals?
Is there a Ryan Giggs type character ready to step in?
Eddie Brennan is the man.
DJ has the credentials
He is key and they may stumble a little. But culture is culture and one man might start building that, but he wonât end ut.
both
Culture is important. Raises the bar and sets a threshold of expectation and more importantly if they are interested you get lads coaching kids who have a background in excellence
but without him on the sideline they lose a lot of the aura, even when ahead you know they will be coming, breathing down your neck and he has ability to change things.
Agreed with all of that.
@gilgamboa makes a good point on marquee players having been feted at underage and not developing further at senior. Waterford face a big test on this in the next couple of years.
I tend to agree. What Kilkenny are doing now is abnormal, even with an exceptionally talented generation of players. The team of Shefflin, JJ, Walsh etc. was exceptionally talented. The current team is not, yet at times they look just as dominant. I find it hard to imagine that happening under a different manager, at least to the same extent.
